So! Since you guys seem to be experts on rice, what is the best rice to cook up? This white boy just buys the 3 minute boil in bags. They taste good to me but I need to broaden my horizons. Is there a better brand or type of rice I should look for in the grocery store? Brown or white, etc. Thanks.
I like using my pink Zojirushi rice cooker. It's small and has a retractable cord for easy storage. Plus it can cook Brown rice easily, a feat not accomplished by many cookers.
I use the Black & Decker steamer all the time for rice and veggies. The rice is perfect. I'll never use the stovetop again. (I bought mine at a yard sale for $1.00) but it is worth this price (IMHO)
Go to an asian store and get one of those bags of Jasmine Rice. Thats the stuff that I buy. Check if you can tell the difference between that and your american stuff. A few white friends of mine cant tell the difference (for some reason) so I guess its all up to your pallete.
Cook it up in chicken broth (or just use water and those chicken boullion cubes) to give it some good flavor. The jasmine absorbs it pretty well so it tastes pretty pukka.
no it's not. You think QVC is referring themself?
Originally found it through a yahoo search. I even went through the extra trouble to search the product ID under QVC's orginal website and remove the Yahoo referral tag and this is the thanks I get. Tsk Tsk tsk. Rice goes good with curry!!
My rice burner was hecka expensive.. plus I have to keep putting unleaded in it. BUT, It lives up to the thread title... Fast and Furious!!! A little NOS never hurt anyone.
Fastest way to cook rice for me in Hong Kong was to go down to the local restaurant and eat there
If my GF cooked anything it was like 3 hours ..and that was just for a sandwich...lol
Actually the microwave rice cooker is supposeldy one of the few Hong Kong inventions
Now that I am in the USA and the Chinese food is so awful (westernised) I rarely eat rice anymore...although I am just back from a pretty decent Thai restaurant in Orlando right now
I got myself this fuzzy logic rice cooker. worth the price ? U bet. It cooks the rice ...not too hard or soft (if u add the right amount of water as marked on the cooker itself.
I bought it here since I could not get it locally. I got the National/Panasonic one which costs abt 109 USD. (5 cup model) And I am in no way affiliated to them or get any commission for them. Just want to point to some Anandtech members on where u can get it online.
Tried many rice cookers and found that the cheap one that works well is National brand. but if you want the best rice, Zojirushi IMO is the best rice cooker out there on the market.
