If you like your Basmati rice done just right, then you should buy a Westinghouse rice cooker.

Is it a good idea to cook your rice fast and furious. Don't the rice get burn.

I didn't know you can cook rice in the "MICROWAVE".

If you want a cheap rice cooker/burner, go to Costco, they have it for $30.

hah, i am WAY MORE fast and furious with my "suped up for burning" gas powered rice burner! I put on a 1 inch line with a reg, and the pot is tweaked out for a full 50 cups, with it's 20 inch pot made out of steel. It also has a 150,000 BTU Burner that can take ANY burners out there, in speed and capacity. The damn thing cost me a fortune tho D:

Uh...whatever.

These are two totally different items.... like comparing a wallmart mixer to a Cuusinart(sp?) mixer. Both can mix.....

Rawk,

It is very easy to F up rice. If you add too much or too little water, and/or having to much cooking at a time they will be too hard, too watery, or both in the same pot being uneven.

I heard the best way to keep rice fresh after cooking is to keep them in freezer, and microwave it (so the moisture won't lost in the fridge)

emonkey,

American rice sucks, they are not sticky at all and is no good if you eat it plain. You need good rice to eat plain.

Thai rice are the best, australian and chinese are not bad. Japanese rice..... I only like it in sushi, not very used to it.

I've got one of those, picked it up at Walmart awhile back. Handy ah heck. When the AC is pumping seemlingly constantly, 25 minutes of stove top cooking doesn't appeal to me. (Small kitchen anyway) and with this thing I just dump it in, hit start, if I forget I was making something and find it the next day, no biggie. Done that with the burners on the stove a few times, man, burnt teflon stinks.

For "chefs and cooks" ok, it's lame. For those of us who eat whatever is handy, it's great.

Just make sure to take out the middle part if you're making one of those premix bags of noodles and stuff otherwise it's a mess.

Rice get burn for various reasons, but if you have the correct ratio of rice and water as well as the proper cooking temperature (presumably a good rice cooker will take care of those factors), the best way to prevent your rice from burning is to stir the rice thoroughly just as the water starts boiling.

Quite often the rice will form cakes or lumps on the bottom of the pot while waiting for the water to boil, the heat cannot be transferred freely to the water without first going thru those cakes or lumps of rice. Stirring the rice that one time during the entire cooking process breaks up the lumps and allows the the rice to be cooked more evenly.

You can store rice in your fridge without freezing it. Just springle some water on the rice in a dish or bowl, seal it with microwavable plastic wrap, and warm up for 1-2 minutes depending on quantity. Your rice will be re-heated with steam and come out great. . . This is turning into a cooking thread!

I've always thought the true value of a rice cooker is whether or not you can cook decent noodles in them too...Every single rice cooker can cook rice.
