We used to get Imus in the Morning here in Atlanta a couple of years ago. I'd listen to it occasionally on the way to work. He was always fair and friendly with Dan Rather, IMHO. This is a decidedly different tune now, though.
Radio talker Don Imus apparently wasn't very impressed by his friend Dan Rather's interview with Saddam Hussein last night, telling his audience Thursday morning that the CBS News anchorman went into the tank big time for the Baghdad butcher.
"It was gutless and cowardly," pronounced the I-man of Rather's performance. "And treasonous," he added for good measure.
"It was beyond disgraceful.... Saddam Hussein came off almost like Mother Theresa... It was so disgraceful it was repulsive," complained the acerbic talk host.
The Rather knuckle rapping was particularly noteworthy given the fact that Imus has had the CBS newsman on his own show dozens of times, and staunchly defended him after Bernard Goldberg's Rather expose "Bias" hit the bestseller list last year.
But after watching his friend's sit-down with the Iraqi dictator, Imus announced, "Here's all you need to know about Dan Rather: When he interviewed the first President Bush, he picked a fight with him. When he interviewed Saddam Hussein, he spent an hour kissing his ass."
