I made the mistake of buying a $200 fake-leather jacket at Express once. It was hanging in the window of the "men's" section (which is about 1/10th the size of the women's section, but I digress...) and looked pretty nice. The material was very nice, the fit was great, and overall it was a nice jacket...
...until it ripped along a perforated part of the body. Pretty much just a design flaw. I only wore it about 10 times, never abused it, never washed it, etc. I had only owned it for a few months, and I went back to the store with the jacket and explained what happened. They basically told me that I would have to ship it out to their returns / repair center, pay for the shipping, and wait for them to deem whether it was customer abuse or a freak circumstance. They said the turn-around time is usually 4-6 weeks. If they deemed that it was customer abuse, they would charge me for another one and ship it out to me. I asked to speak to the manager and got the same answer.
I told them to forget it. $200 or not, it's not worth the time and effort. That was the first and last time I ever did business with them. It's still sitting in the trunk of my car. I'm not really sure what I want to do with it.
How can a company that charges so much for "high-end" clothes be so cheap? Sears, JC Penny, Kohls, etc. all have excellent return policies, and they all carry reasonably-priced clothes.
