I saw that the other day and I thought it was really, really stupid. What was the point of it?

Hitchcock's classic Rear Window followed closely by:
Jaws
Raiders of the Lost Ark

I'm glad to see somebody besides me (Ornery) likes Forbidden Planet as much as I do. Back before Leslie Nielson did all slapstick.

mentatmule: "BTW, any other Buckaroo fans out there?"

Yup. And, I see you included Repo Man in your list. Both gems.

Raging Bull is the most comprehensively satisfying drama I've ever seen.

Memento is a stunning tour de force.

And I'd add all the Monty Python films, especially The Meaning of Life ("into the fetus frightening room" and "In fact I'll take two (condoms), for I am a Protestant and fiercely proud of it.") to Buckaroo Banzai as top notch comedy classics.

Still, for wholesome family entertainment, stimulating intellectual inquiry, and plain old fashioned good taste, no one can top a Tom Green opus.

Edit: And, btw, boo hoo hoo for poor Tom and Drew. What possibly could have broken those two fun kids up? You don't think that somehow the tawdry side of Hollywood (you know, having that second drink or cheating at celebrity canasta tournaments) could have undermined their obviously bedrock soul connection, do you? I mean, didn't they swap spit or blood or some meaningful bodily fluid as proof of their eternal love?

It was totaly mind-absorbing. Great ideas and intelligent premise. I mean, use your head--if a God put this special info into your head, what makes you think you must share it? If it was meant to be shared then God would, if you gave it some thought, He would certainly come up with an original way to do it besides letting it reside in someones skull. I think the basic argument is that personal happiness matters more than worrying about someone else--in other words, libertarian views. I'm probably the only one who came up with that form of reasoning, but it resonates with me. BTW, I'm an atheist.

<< Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas >>

Yes, another hypnotic/acid-head, classic. A lot of peeps hated it, but I got some good moments out of it. Damnit, why couldn't I have been born in the 50's so I could have grown up in the late 60's :-( To hell with it! Here is my new list of Hypnotic/acid-head movies you must see :

1. The Doors
2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
3. Altered States
4. Videodrome (one of Cronenbergs best)
5. Jacob's Ladder
6. Hell.....I'll think of some more later on....

Yes, but I bought the dvd and it was a lousy transfer though. And no special stuff. I'll wait for a better version to come out. Just like Total Recall came out and it was a crappy trasnfer but the new one rocks!
