I wasted two years of my life trying to get an associates degree that wasn't suitable for me. I ended up flunking out of school despite taking it seriously and working really hard.

I have only myself to blame for that, I should have thought and decided for myself instead of just blindly following teachers' advice in high school.

Getting involved with the hard liquor crowd first year of college. Got so bad I lost scholarship, had to pay my own way. I haven't used alcohol since then, that was 20 years ago, and still the thought of drinking makes me mad.

Don't know, I lack the ability to see alternate timelines, so I don't know what I should and shouldn't regret.

Sometimes I wonder about having gone for a Master's/Ph.D. in particle physics, and working on a nuclear fusion reactor somewhere....or on some high-end NASA thing. (Project Prometheus would've been fun, or Project Longshot.)

Oh well, the job I've got now is reasonably amusing and entertaining and so on. And it pays the bills. The 4 years of college before this was rather enough for my taste, at least for now.

Who knows though; I may well get bored with this job in the coming years, unless they do a fair amount of growth, with new projects and new equipment to keep things interesting. We shall see. Management has high hopes for the near future, and the owner has a damn good record when it comes to making business decisions.

Getting bad grades and not taking a lot of math in college. Everything else--girls, friends, other events-- I don't really care about because I wouldn't be where I am today had it been different, and although today isn't perfect it isn't that bad. But if I'd done the math and had the grades I'd have a lot more doors open to me now.

I dont mean to sound like an asshole, but you wouldnt have survived the Navy.
A year away from home, 2 months at a time on the ocean, battlestations for 24 hours straight. I used to wonder why guys cried themselves to sleep at night, then I realized it was because they had it too good back home.
I'm in community college right now and I have to say its much easier than any job I've ever had. Which is annoying because many of classes are filled with angry, lazy, spoiled teeny-boppers who have no idea how lucky they are.

In 2001 I tried to get my best friend to move to my city and be my roommate, I would have been more than happy to pay all the bills until he could fully get on his feet. I offered it a few times never pressing it. He always seemed to have trouble find him. He got in trouble again and put on house arrest for a year. He was let off a month or so early and the next week he was in a car wreck, unexplained to this day what happened, and he was crushed into his steering wheel from winding up underneath an 18 wheeler after dropping his sister off at work. Friends since 2, passed away at 25. I regret not pushing harder to get him away from the crap that was surrounding him.

I know it doesn't compare to the Navy, but part of what kept me motivated during college was, "Remember what it was like to work in retail."
I was the sort who got nervous about my grade if it dipped to 80%, because the classes that mattered required >=70% to pass. I always liked having a decent buffer available for those times when I'd screw up on a test, or completely forget about a rather substantial assignment.

Drinking and driving one night in 2000, just after the horrifying elections. Driving from Miami -> Fort Lauderdale with 0.25 BAL cannot end well. I spent 2 months in the hospital.

Smoking pot and working in the donut factory instead of applying to colleges. Shit - smoking pot . It kept me from getting a scolarship. I should have had a 4.0 and graduated with honors. Instead now I gotta work this fucking shitty job, and my GF has to work too instead of being constantly knocked up making me sandwiches like she's supposed to.

Dude, I fucking freak out if I get near 90-92%. If it isn't above 95% all the time I am always anxious.
