Your computer: always 'on'?

Greetings, fellows.

Is it always on? 24/7?

Or do you turn it off when you are not using it anymore?

Thanks a lot!

I turn both of them off through the day when no one is home, and at night when were all in bed. Silly to have them sitting there sucking up power and making the house hotter for no reason. I also turn off unneeded lights, the tv if no one is watching it, and ceiling fans if no one is in the room. The way I see it, if I save 25 cents by turning things off, it's the easyest quarter I ever made.

When I get home from school I turn my computer and keep it on until I go to sleep. However, I am an obsessive monitor turner-offer, and I turn off my monitor whenever I leave my computer, even if its just for a minute or two.

I'll put it this way.

When I'm not on the computer, i'm probably downloading a torrent.
24/7 when possible, but my monitor suspends after 10 minutes of inactivity.

:Q

I've only got two crunchers, and they are my main computers, so they are only on when being used.

I have one system on all the time. It is my router box as well as my torrent box (eventually MP3 server and print server). It runs without keyboard/mouse/monitor. It uses a VIA C3 933MHz CPU and a Seagate HDD so it runs nearly silent and probably doesn't draw that much power. My other systems are turned on as I need them and usually left to go into sleep when not using them, and shut off when I go to bed.

I have three systems that are my own (and one other that I'm setting up for another purpose), all of which run 24/7 partly for convenience but mostly for Folding@Home.

I turn it off when I go on a long trip (2+ days), but other than that, it stays on most of the time. I live in a condo, and the electricity is lumped into my condo payments, so it's the same if I use no electricity or lots of electricity. If I seperate electricity bills...it might be different.

my computer has been on since the last time the power went out. And before then it had been on about 7 straight months.

My monitor however is off more than it's on, I've actually been sitting AT my computer desk and turned it off cus i was reading a book or watching tv while waiting for a torrent.

I'm very anal about that, and hate that at work we're not allowed to turn our monitors off, it's ridiculous.

The switch may get worn out eventually. I just leave it on and set it to go to sleep after 15 mins or so.

On when gaming only, off otherwise.

My low power draw laptop works good enough in every other chore and over a years time, my wallet is slightly fatter.....

After I finish with what I'm doing on my computer I turn it off unless I'm planning on using it later in the day. I always turn it off when I go to bed.

Desktop is on 24/7 and is only down for updates and such. The laptop is on 24/7 but is put to sleep when not in use.

24/7 (monitor sleeps after 15 minutes) I feel they are made to run all the time. Turning them on and off often just puts more stress on system components IMHO especially the HD's.
