Manuals. We have three up until recently when I sold my weekend toy. We've had four manuals total. It's both mine and the wife's preference. I'm in the market for a truck and quite disappointed it's practically impossible to get a manual in the truck we want.

I prefer them because they're more enjoyable to drive and when the time comes easier to fix. That time is usually much longer than with an automatic too.

Wow. As of August 2013 3.9% of cars sold in the US were manuals. I'm sure that number is even lower now.

But in this forum more people are driving manuals than autos.

Have not owned a manual car in over a decade. Last 2 cars owned have been manual and I like it that way. Even a boring car becomes slightly more palatable and fun to drive when you have a stick.

You'll find the same in other forums. I think those that join these kinds of forums are more enthusiasts than "normal" people and thus are more inclined to opt for a manual than not.

Does that mean we are the hipsters of the car community?

I bought the I4 model of Honda Accord instead of V6 almost entirely due to the fact that V6 didn't come with manual, price difference was only ~$3K. That's the only car I've owned.
I grew up in Europe where automatics were (and still largely are) rare, and all 4 cars my dad owned (2 of which I drove) were manuals. I like driving, and shifting manually adds another dimension to the experience for me.

That said, my next car will likely be automatic. I have a strong preference for manuals, but sadly they're getting extinct in North America at least for the cars I've been looking at: Audi A6 nothing, even S6 is auto only, BMW 4/5/6 series, I think only M have manuals, Cadillac CTS nothing, Mercedes C/CLA etc.

Auto

I haven't owned a manual transmission car in over 15 years.

And I'm not voting in this poll because it is meaningless.

My bike is manual... and it is faster than your cage.

F150 is an auto, didnt have the option of a manual or I probably would have taken it.

Work vehicles are all kinds of different transmissions.

Grew up with manuals, learned to drive on one. Have owned many vehicles with manuals over the years, and driven more, such as 10-ton dump trucks, etc., but as age has hit with its problems, such as arthur-itis in the knee and hips, manuals have become painful to use.

And towing is vastly easier with an auto.

The family hauler (CTS) and my truck (V8 Dakota) are automatic. My 73 Chevy is a manual. 4speed > 3speed

One manual (old M3) and one auto (old 330i). The old 330i is going away in favor of a cheap winter car (probably old manual Saab 9-3).

Auto. Got tired of manual in heavy stop and go traffic. If i get a toy car it will be manual, but day to day driving is much nicer with the auto.

My first two cars were manuals and I basically honed my driving skills with one when my parents bought a Toyota Celica when I was 17 with a five speed. We lived out in the sticks of the Sierra Nevada at the time and those twisty mountain roads were made for a manual transmission. When I was on my own I moved to Sacramento and then the Bay Area and a manual is a p.i.t.a. on a freeway with daily traffic jams or steep hills in San Francisco. I eventually bought an automatic and it made my daily commute so much easier.
