My dream everyday driver would be all electric with a top speed of 50 mph, a 40 mile range, customizable body and, a $1000 price tag.

I'd give the nod to the Mercedes CLS550. It is a sexy looking 4 door sedan with plenty of power and class. I still find myself admiring the looks of this car whenever I spot one on the road.

The whole premise of the OP doesn't make sense. With an "unlimited" budget, how is reliability even a factor?

You can have a full time support vehicle with spare parts traveling with you, like bicyclists in the Tour de France.

Or, you can hire someone to drive an identical car behind you, so if the your car breaks down, just swap with the other car. Think of it like RAID 1 for commuting.

If you truly had an unlimited budget, such as heads of state, VIPs, etc. roads are only used for "last mile" travel, similar to telecommunications. For distance you travel by air, either by helicopter or private jet.

Reliability for a daily driver is a factor. Getting stranded sucks and I don't want my daily driver living in the shop when I want to use it.

While my overall dream car would be a Porsche 997 GT3 RS, I'd love just a standard 997 Carrera 2 to drive around in.

Honestly, my current "everyday car" makes me quite happy and it's "just" a '98 S70 T5, with an automatic even. It can hold a lot of stuff, it has adequate power and handling, a great stereo, incredibly comfortable seats, and gets reasonable mileage.

On the other hand, my "fun car" could also work just fine as a daily driver. Lots of people (myself included) have had a 944 as an everyday car and they work great for that. The turbo models are even better. But you do lose a back seat and, as much as I end up being the DD for my friends right now, it's just not possible for any coupe to be a good daily driver for me.

When the S70 has to be replaced, I'll probably start a search for a 2001-2003 M5 and then keep that car for as long as I possibly can. IMO, the E39 M5, especially the 2001+ models with their revisions, are about as perfect as a sedan can get. They're beautiful without being ostentatious, the engine is magnificent, they have enough room to carry adults, and the chassis is delightfully communicative.

Then again, it would be a lot of fun to buy one of these and drive it daily just for shits and grins...

You can pick up 944's really cheap nowadays although alot of the time you need to be prepared to do some work on 'em. My buddy's dad races a non-turbo 944 in the SE region PCA, he loves the thing.

M5 is the ultimate daily driver. It's low profile enough when you want it to be and absolutely the opposite when you want it to be. Perfect.

To be honest I'm loving the G8 as a DD and really don't find myself wishing for anything else. Maybe some more mods, but that's about it really. If I had unlimited cash I'd probably be driving something less "reasonable" for DD duties like a 2 seat sports car, for the summer months anyway.

2011 XFR with the M5 being a very close second. I just like the styling of the Jag more. With it being a daily driver I am going to enjoy that more than the M5's better handling in standard grocery getting chores.
