Your Favorite School Lunch??

If you're in school/went to school, what was your favorite school lunch (not that you brought, but that the school served).

We had this stuff called turkey gravy when I went to school. Fucking loved it. It's just mashed potatoes with shreds of turkey with gravy on it. Served with a roll and green beans. YUM.

I'm fuckin' high. I hope this thread takes off.

At my school, chicken patty, chicken sandwich, chicken nuggets, chicken burger, and chicken strips were all the same thing. They just cut it up to look different. Chicken sandwitch? Just put the patty in between bread. Chicken burger? Just add some "grill" marks to the patty. Chicken nuggets? Just cut the patty up. Chicken strips? Just cut the patty into strips longer than the nuggets. It didn't matter to me. I loved them all. Everyone knows this.

I don't know why a lot of people in general complain about school cafe food, it was the shizzle. The only bummer was having no money to buy it more than biweekly or so and just brownbagging it while seeing "disadvantaged kids" getting free lunch tickets every day. One of my favorites was something incorrectly called a chalupa IIRC, the corn tortilla, the cheese, the meat chunks, yum. The pizza had this sauce that my sister and I try to recreate to this day. The chocolate milk and multigrain rolls zomg. Surprisingly almost nobody was overweight either. This was in the late 80's to the late 90's.

In high school, chicken tenders and mashed potatoes. And they had some really good gravy. Everyone in school was dying waiting for chicken and mashed day.

In Jr. High we had something called turkey fries, which were pretty much like the chicken fries that BK sells now. They were freakin fantastic, and as gross as it sounds, people would dip them in the nacho cheese sauce and it was bomb. They always ran out so people would fuckin rush to get them.

Taco boat was taco stuff but shell was like a boat. Pizza burger was good. The best was turkey day. My school lunches was the bomb. They had good spaghetti too. They also had this thing call A la carte witch was the food from the day before still was good. We also use to have races in 8th grade to get in line first, those were the days!

They used to make this hexagonal Mexican pizza. Granted, the pizzas were all thin and doughy but that Mexican pizza is about the only dish I miss from HS lunches.

my fave was Subway, every Wednesday we would get 6 in subway subs with chips and a cookie. School had some deal with subway where they made them and brought them over in bulk

subway while not great was worlds better then the normal school food, however that mexican pizza was also pretty good, and so was baked ziti

normal pizza was crap, i don't remember much else

I think everyone had pretty much the same lunch because they bought all of their food from Pegler-Sysco.

We had the same hexagonal pizzas...chicken nuggets..."italian dunkers"...chili and cinnamon rolls...so on...

I can't remember anything that really stuck out, but I didn't think school lunch was that bad. At least they made an effort at trying to keep it balanced.

But my favorite were the nuggets - maybe chicken? I don't know.

slightly off topic but did anyone ever work in their schools caf? when we were in grade school in 5/6th grades we had to do 2 week stints serving food/washing trays
