Footlong oven-roasted chicken
9-grain honey oat
Pepper jack cheese
Toasted
Green pepper
Banana pepper
Jalapeno pepper
Pepper relish
Onion
Pickle
Chipotle sauce

Yeah, I like it hot. Pretty healthy except for the salt content, and very filling for $5.

My unconventional favourite has always been:

Whole Wheat (or white, depending on mood)
Pizza Sub
Mozzarella
Lettuce
Tomato
Green Olive
+++++ Hot Peppers
Load up on the sauce
Heat/Toasted

subway doesn't have whole wheat bread.

spicy italian/bmt
tomatoes
onions
banana peppers
olives
jalapenos
oil & vinegar
parmesan
black pepper

$5 for a sub isn't even cheap. Sorry to be the first to "subway sucks, mom & pop places are better" in this thread, but local sub shops here, even the local grocery store, have TWO foot long subs for under $10. And their subs have twice as much meat on them. (Sadly, the place that makes the best roast beef subs I've ever had has gone the subway route in regard to skimpiness of cheese.) $8.49 and one sub is enough for me and my wife for dinner, with a piece leftover for lunch or for a treat for the dogs. (minus the onions, of course.)

I find subway to be one of the cases where the chain is better than the mom&pop. $5 is the lowest price for a foot long in my area. In fact, most mom&pop shops I've been to have a footlong for about $7. And mom&pop shops usually don't have the variety subway has. Most only have a simple lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayo on white or wheat bread.

Vons is probably one of the few exceptions and has a greater variety of stuff, and probably makes one of the best subs that I know, but they definitely cost a lot more than subway.

$5 for a footlong sub actually isn't expensive if you've ever tried to go to the supermarket to get all the materials to make one of these yourself. Deli meats are around $6-8/lb. Subway/quiznos usually puts around 1/3rd lb of meat on there(I saw quiznos weigh it out). That's $2-3 right there just for the meat. Add in the bread, veggies, and condiments you'll be well over $5 for a footlong sub. You'd have to eat this just about everyday just to break even.

My current fave:

"The Feast", but replace the roast beef with extra pepperoni. Add bacon (have them toast just the bacon). Lettuce, onions, oil, vinegar, mayo (slightly extra mayo) and mustard. Salt and pepper is good on this, but I'm avoiding salt where possible due to blood pressure.

Thats what I figured too. $5 is sorta expensive but if you bought every single ingredient it would cost you a shit ton and you would have to eat it every day to keep it from spoiling.

From experience since I tried but the spinach kept going bad because I couldnt ever finish it in time. In the end I just get a half assed sandwich for much cheaper with my ingredients.

You would love the roast beef subs I get then. Fresh baked homemade whole wheat rolls. The roast beef is slow roasted on premises - not purchased from some wholesaler. Perfect medium rare throughout. Nice and lean. And, there's about a pound of roast beef on a sub. And, you can get them toasted in the oven for a nice, warm sandwich. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes. Since there's enough meat to give the sub flavor, it's not necessary to toss in a shitload of things like green peppers, jalapenos, etc., so that you can taste something other than the bread. i.e. subway

bla bla bla bla bla

i just came look at this thread to see how stupid people would get over what they order. How funny thanks for laughs yes how dare they give you option of peppers!!!!! hahahahha

Your choice of bread I like the 9-grain whatever..

Spicy Italian + pepperjack cheese (must be tesselated)
Light lettuce
Loads of banana peppers
Onions
Black olives
Pickles
Pepper

#4 at Jimmy John's is better if you're going with chain food.

Foot long coldcut combo on white (Italian). In order...mayo (plenty), 1 line of mustard, about 4 handfuls of jalapenos, and then some oil to lube everything up. It will be exiting in about 6 hours...

Or Spicy Italian on some sort of bread. Lettuce, green pepper, onion, black olives, hot peppers and banana peppers, and some italian dressing. Yummy.

  • tomato
  • banana peppers
  • onion
  • southwest sauce!
no olives, bell peppers, spinach, lettuce but maybe jalapenos instead of banana peppers

Lettuce, pepper and olives. I could go with just pepper and olives. The less the better.
