There's a reason for that.

Yes they over charge for everything, because there are a ton of people who'll spend 3x as much just to say they got it from a mom & pop local place. Subway has 6 different types of breads and can make dozens of different sandwiches. The M&P might have 2-3 types of bread if you're lucky and usually only offer a few sandwiches. I paid $9 for a pastrami from a M&P, it came on a roll that looked and tasted exactly like the rolls I buy in a bag at Vons. It was worth about $4 tops but they get away with charging over twice that because idiots think the sandwich is somehow magically better due to where it came from.

The idea that mom and pop places bake their own breads from scratch and have a butcher shop in the back make me laugh. While there are some here and there that are better, as a whole most suck, and most are very expensive. I've paid $13 for a foot long that was craptastic. Subway isn't the best, but it's the best for $5 easily.

I try not to eat out, I try not to eat cold food, I try not to eat processed food or meats been to subway like twice. Don't remember.

In your attempt to live forever, you have yet to realize that you are already dead.

My standard,

Footlong (random bread, not flatbread)
spicy italian w/bacon and provalone. Toasted.
lettuce, onion, green pepper and the best part banana peppers.
small amount of mayo and oil.
Add pepper

Done. Tried this with pickles once and they did nothing.

I do this to save on fat and carb intake:

parmesean oregano bread (idk why they call it this, there is no cheese on it, thats Italian herb and cheese)
tuna
lots of olives
onions
lettuce
spinach
oregano sprinkled ontop

no cheese, so fat is down. (only from mayo in the tuna)

I think it tastes very good

Do they still do the subway cut? Where they cut the top off of the roll in a triangular portion. That was the best part of subway, but they stopped doing that around here.

What?!?!? Can I be reading this right? Quebert is actually sticking up for something popular or mainstream?

I do enjoy Subway. Sure, there are better options but their sandwiches are big, cheap, and much healthier than placed like McDonald's. Here is my build of choice:

Italian BMT on wheat
Lettuce
Extra tomatoes (tomatoes make or break a sandwich)
Pickles
Green peppers
Banana peppers
Lo cal/fat free mayo

I used to get cheese on it too, but I've been finding that it isn't essential.

Is this some sort of joke? Pizza Hut stuffed crust is my favorite pizza and I eat chain fast food every day of my life. The only mainstream stuff I don't like would be overrated females celebrities like Katy Perry & Megan Fox. When it comes to food I almost never like mom and pop places.

Mainstream food places design their food to cater to the widest possible demographic, to taste good to the most people possible.

'Local' food places don't do that, they prepare their food how they choose. Smaller appeal, but better tasting for that audience.

I tend to prefer local places are it keeps more money local rather then sending it out of state. Not always easy to do, mainstream places are open wider hours, more plentiful, have online ordering, etc.

For what it's worth, I'd prefer my dollars support local places too -- I just can't find any that I actually like. Subway, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Bob Evans, Applebees, etc. I love the chains, don't like the local crap.

Just necro'ed it since I thought it was relevant to all of the subway threads coming up and didn't want to start a new thread.
