some of you have an interesting oppinion of films that are under appreciated (Usual Suspects? Shawshank Redemption? Dr. StrangeLove?).

One film that I love, and the majority of people I talk to (Losers they are) hate, is:

High Noon

that film is perhaps one of the best ever and I feel that most people don't realize how great it is. Also GroundHog Day was insulted by a lot of critics and people alike and that film rules.

I really liked The Avengers. It was a hoot - like the original series.

I just saw Hurricane last night. I think Denzel Washington should have got an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Most underrated movie:
Pokemon: The Movie

Ok, seriously, all Kevin Smith movies, Chasing Amy was the best though, with Clerks a close second.

Spaceballs is waaaay up there, Buckaroo Banzai, Big Trouble in Little China was awesome, All of Jackie Chans earlier, Hong Kong movies were straight up hillarious, with kick anus action. Being John Malkavich(sp), though that was somewhat acclaimed.

Sticking with John Malkavich(sp), Rounders was also an underrated awesome movie. If you havent seen it, check it out.

uncouth I'm with you on High Noon. It's my favorite western, and I do believe it's under appreciated.

One of the really interesting aspects of this film is that the film's running time is the same as the amount of time covered in the story itself. Just a little bit of High Noon trivia.

Oh, and I think that Boiler Room may go down as under appreciated as well. What a wonderful piece of work.

Blood Simple, the first movie by Joel and Ethan Coen, who directed Fargo and the Big Lebowski. (I love most of their movies. I thought the Big Lebowski was pretty bad though. Fargo is great though. Hudsucker Proxy is also cool.)

Blood Simple is an awesome thriller. It is critically acclaimed, though not very well known to the general public. It has some amazing scenes in it. (Bullets through the wall... Shovel dragging on the road... The fight in the yard.)

Anyway, if you liked some of their other movies, you will probably dig seeing their first one. Check it out.

The Princess Bride
The Running Man
Falling Down (Michael Douglas and a bag full of guns, what could be better?)
Philadelphia Story (though in it's time I think it was very popular)
Topper

There are a lot of old movies that are excellent, but many people today think old = bad. It's a shame really.

Army of Darkness by far. Did anyone see the Kurt Russell flick "Soldier?" If you get past the fact that it's completely unrealistic, it's pretty good actually.
And you guys (and gals) probably never heard of this, but an old Ringo Star movie called "Caveman." It's mostly in some made-up language, but it's easy to tell what's going on. It's hilarious.
Even though it did recieve some attention, Fight Club deserved more recognition.

Apocalypse Now (classic movie no-one seems to mention anymore)
La Femme Nikita (I'm a Besson fan)
The Assignment (starring Aidan Quinn, not that I care for him, but it's an unusually interesting movie)

Alferd Packer: The Musical (You less enlightened people who saw it after South Park came out probably know it as "Cannibal: The Musical."

I'm a big fan of stupid, warped comedies:

Kentucky Fried Movie

UHF

and, to a lesser extent, Amazon Women on the Moon

An except from UHF, "Raul's Wild Kingdom":

<< For those of you just joining us, today we're teaching poodles how to fly... >>

LMAO!

I agreee with you there, Damaged. I love Christina Ricci and the movies she has been in. Buffalo 66 was one of the best, though. I love independant movies. One I saw recently was Fatty Drives the Bus. THAT MOVIE WAS HILARIOUS. Probably no one else here has seen it but I suggest you try to find it and rent it.

I've seen quite a few movies mentioned here that I loved, but they really didn't get the recognition they deserved.

How about these John Cusack films?

The Sure Thing
Eight Men Out
Fat Man and Little Boy
Say Anything
Grosse Pointe Blank
The Grifters
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (Okay, that one did get a lot of recognition, but mainly because Clint directed it.)

I felt the need to add a few more.

Just saw The Faculty. Very funny teen spoof on sci-fi invasion flicks that tries to almost take itself seriously.

Of course (already mentioned), Forbidden Planet - great-grandfather of StarTrek (monsters from the id) complete with transporters and a Captain Kirk-like hero that gets the girl.

Flesh Gordon, another almost porno-spoof of Sci-fi from the late 60s.

The Demon with Dana Andrews; spooky (40's?) film. (Good for a remake).

PS: Keep them coming - I have watched some of your suggestions. Thanks.
