No, we all have our own things that we do, and we all do them well. When someone needs help with something, we help each other out. We're usually fairly efficient. Party 1's initial message to Party 2 was informative, so that he knew we'd have 1 less switch in stock, and his response was probably because we're always picking on him about deploying switches to offices.

No kidding. I think they need to have a meeting about this, or better yet, a staff retreat, even better, a management retreat, or since they be nerds, a virtual management retreat in a WOW-like world. In fact I think I'll copyright World of Management and patent the online retreat world where managers can meet, suck up, or dominate other managers and pickup valuable management skills from the comfort of their offices. Will save oodles on travel costs.

Sleep deprivation and a keyboard... a fearsome combination.

But then he added, and I guess to satisfy your thickness of head, and/or argumentativeness you've already displayed, "Not you or anybody else." That was meant for you specifically. Get the message?

I guess not, though, given your thread title and post.

I was not party 1, prick.

It's BITCH, you douchebag, not prick. Get your genders right, idiot.

Oh, I apologize. I didn't realize that you were one of the few women on the forums (since there are quite a few men using female avatars).

I agree, "i don't do them, not you or anybody else" is ambiguous in that the second half is so horribly worded that it means nothing. But I think the most reasonable interpretation is that no one should install local switches.

Of course that should prompt the followup question "how should I take care of this user's need for additional Ethernet ports" which would have revealed the correct interpretation.

This situation highlights the need to communicate effectively, which the supervisor did not do.

Party 1 is a coworker, and party 2 is our supervisor. She interpreted his message as you have (Nik, et al), so she didn't install the network switch. A week or so later, I got a call asking about the status of getting a PC installed in that office. When I inquired, she explained the situation. I read the txt conversation and interpreted it as:

1>SO is putting another computer in office 0107, too few net drops, need a switch
2>i don't do localized switches any more
1>i figured you'd just delegate that out to someone
2>i said that i don't do them, i didn't say that you or anybody else can't install them
1>ok

We got in touch with the boss and he confirmed that my interpretation was correct... so my coworker then took care of installing a network switch.

I can't believe that I'm the only person that sees that conversation as too ambiguous to act upon.

With the way you've reworded it, I can see how the super would have wanted them to do so but simply explained that he personally doesn't do them anymore.

The lack of progress would be the supervisor's fault for being ambiguous.

I love how people have phones with full qwerty and still write in T9 shorthand. God that pisses me off.

Some qwerty keyboards are harder to use for texting than T9 keypads.

I use a T9 keypad. I do not use shorthand. I do not make spelling or grammatical mistakes. Yes, I use proper punctuation like commas and shit.

I used to do that, too... then I realized that it doesn't matter all that much.
