Your mp3 streaming software of choice?

I've tried out shoutcast for winamp and it worked ok, but stopped working today for some reason. Gave me a bunch of trouble, and it also would skip out for the person listening on the other end, if I was doing anything with my comp - even though it wasn't lagging the computer on my end at all.

So what kind of software for this would you recommend? Are there any alternatives?

I used to use Shockwave and didn't have any problems with it, so I never had any incentive to try anything else for an extended period. Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder (a free download from their website) is pretty limited, but it's not too hard to use; I tried it for a little bit, but prefer Winamp to WMP7/8/9 on the client side, so I didn't pursue it beyond that basic level of experience.

Shoutcast has tendencies to act like this on certain system configurations.

Unfortunately, due to the way the engine was written for the program, it sucks.

I can recommend Kyxpyx Technologies Kasterblaster but it wont be avaiable for another week or two as version 2 is about to be released...

I'd appreciate it. I set up my stream, went to work - and tried it from work (we always leave streaming radio on while we work here)... It would play for a few mins, stop. I'd have to restart it each time to get it going.

What hardware or software are the problems commonly associated with? I am changing my CPU from 1.3 Tbird to 2500+ Barton soon, so I wonder if that will help. Even though Winamp still stays at 0% CPU usage most of the time with ShoutCast going.

Thanks for the help so far. For some people it seems it works ok, for others they can barely get a stream at all. Even though I'm not anywhere near using all my bandwidth (and DU meter confirms this).

SLIMP3 works okay. I only played with it some. The cool thing is you can set it up so that you can log in remotely and start it up, edit playlists etc...
