Yes because the AE86 had a 2.0 liter subaru boxer and the GT86 is also a hatchback... wat? Just because "86" is in the name doesn't mean it's a direct re-imagining... The AE is also a Corolla, technically.

People complain it's slow because no turbo, yet if it had a turbo it wouldn't start at $25k and bros using them for drag racing would still get schooled by AWD Evos and Focus RS's. The 86 is a canyon carver, and it excels as such, like the Miata. N/A power is also nicer/smoother than boost if you're going for raw power. And, if not, there's only like a thousand FI packages for the cars if you absolutely need the turbo.

yes agree. the gt86 is only slightly more a ae86 than the new bmw supra is a supra. I guess at least on the gt86 toyota contributed some direct injection and heads..

That color is crazy. My old e46 m3 is in "interlagos blue" which is like a flat darker bluish-purple if it's cloudy or flat lighting but turns into a bright blue in sunlight, but it's nowhere near as dramatic as that.

It's weird because it doesn't look quite as dramatic IRL, at least until you take a picture of it. Random picture off google images of the "normal" color: (flat, no metallic)

The light has to hit it a certain way in order for it to do this: (same color as above, just with a bright light on it!)

It's mostly that flat black cherry color though. Pretty unique colors overall!

i can dig it... production wheels are nicer than those chromes too

yessir, other than a few fuel system bits and valve train parts the 86 is basically all Subaru. Right down to the lug nuts... even comes up as a Subie in the state registry.

My state can't figure out which town I live in.

If the VIN says Toyota, it's a Toyota. Doesn't matter who their design partners were or where they sourced the parts. They're signing on the dotted line.

Looks like Subaru & Toyota are recalling most early FR-S and BRZ/GT86 models due to valve springs. Greeeeeeaaaaat.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/subaru...ore-than-400-000-vehicles-globally-1541054737

EDIT: Mine looks to be outside the range of affected VIN numbers but that still sucks pretty hard. Since it's a boxer engine, I'm guessing the motors have to be pulled and rotated to replace the valve springs...

My 2012 Odyssey had bad piston rings so they had to do a rebuild cuz it fouls spark plugs... How cheap do you have to be to cheap out on piston rings?
At least they covered it.

It's a pretty trippy color...usually it's just flat purple (well, I guess more of "black cherry" than like purple-purple), but when the sunlight hits it, the metallic red comes out. It's hard to photograph, depending on the lighting. I had to boost the colors to show the shift in this picture, although you can't see the metallic flakes. I actually don't really like red on the S550 design at all, but this color looks awesome because of the minor color-shift that happens.

I think Red really looks sweet on these. I have a 2017 GT Premium in Ruby Red and really enjoy the look, especially once it's fully washed and waxed. Did an intake and Magnaflow Axel Back system. Gonna drop a tune in next week and then sit on it until it's fully paid off.

Yeah, the metallics look nice. I guess to get more specific, I'm not a super-big fan of the flat-look red on the S550 design; I think the metallic colors do more justice to the angles & curves:

Especially don't like the flat blue on it:

Not a real big fan of the flat green, either. Looks like a Matchbox toy to me:

The weird thing is, I really hated the flat orange, until I saw it in person - it actually looks GREAT IRL, especially with the spoiler (which is another thing I didn't like on most newer Mustangs) & black rims:

The previous yellow color (tri-coat) was also fantastic. Again, didn't like it much in the pictures, but in person, WOW! When I first test-drove the Mustang before I got my Renegade, I almost picked one up in that color specifically for that color, because it looked so good in person! I think the lambo is the only other car I've ever seen yellow really "work" on.

So I dunno; I'm very particular about the colors on different designs. Like, I saw a new Bullitt Mustang on the highway the other day - the green is waaaaaaaaay too dark IRL. I know it matches up pretty close to the original Steve McQueen version, but it needed to be a bit brighter because it looked pretty drab. That, and the red calipers looked really awful on it. Not even like "hey, Christmas colors!", just bad, lol.

It’s weird though. The bullet has the red Brembo calipers while the standard GT with performance package has the Ford performance brake kit which is authentic Brembo calipers but is stealth gray instead of red. I like those better. The bright red calipers stand out too much for certain colors.

The next vehicle I purchase will likely be either a Class A motorhome or a 1 ton truck.
I currently drive an AWD Nissan Rogue.

Ever thought about getting an old school bus and building an RV out of it?

I've seen some that look nice but I am not interested in that type of project.

I am very interested in converting a Tesla Electric Semi into an RV:

1. It uses four (4) Model 3 motors (one per wheel), and is basically in a RAID array...up to motors can go out & it will still function!

2. The windshield is essentially "bulletproof". On average, semi-trucks go down once a year for a flying muffler to the windshield & have downtime while waiting for a replacement. Not so with this one!

3. Self-driving. What more do you need to know?

4. Full electric. $180k for a 500-mile range. 400-mile recharge in 30 minutes at a semi charging station. 500 miles at 65mph is over 7.5 hours of driving, which is a lot in one day, so I don't really see 500 miles as a "range issue" like with most electric cars.

5. Super fast...unloaded, the zero to 60 is 5 seconds. Hauling 80,000 pounds, the 0 to 60 is 20 seconds. It can climb hills at 65mph, instead of 45mph like a diesel truck.

So despite the size, you get a pretty livable DD as an EV. Lots of places sell semi-to-RV conversions...this would be like the lowest-hassle system available!

I wonder if there's a way to siphon electricity from the batteries to run appliances and what not

Can't agree more.. I really didn't like the yellow until I saw it in person.

2019 Miata has really caught my eye. Meanwhile in fantasy land, my company is acquired and splurge on a Porsche GT4.

He accidentally misspelled GT4. He meant to say GT2 RS but it was auto corrected.

The GT4 did get good reviews.

GT2 RS is too much car for me and I like the sort of more classic nature of the GT4. And what I should have said is the company I work for gets acquired, so, budget factors--even fantasyland still exists in the realm of remote possibility and not squandering everything.

I just thought of an amazing idea.

Solar panels on the roof.

It's been done, it's just useless. All the Prius one has the power to do is run an electric fan for car ventilation when parked: (no A/C tho)

https://www.jpauleytoyota.com/blog/how-does-the-toyota-prius-solar-roof-feature-work/

Supposedly, the one offered in the Japanese market can add 3.7 miles of range, under ideal circumstances with the car parked in direct sunlight (useless if you park in a garage or parking garage or overhang or under a tree). The downside is that the option costs $2,500...do the math on the payback time on that, lol.

Hyundai & Kia have a newer version coming out in 2020:

https://cleantechnica.com/2018/11/06/hyundai-kia-to-begin-offering-solar-sun-roofs-after-2019/

They're going to be offering that on the Sonata & Ioniq hybrid models, both of which have similar small 1.56 kWh batteries (note that the plug-in Ioniq hybrid has a much bigger 8.9 kWH battery, and even though that battery is 5x larger, it only has a 24-mile range), which they say will be able to get a 60% charge in the course of an entire day, under ideal conditions. Second option will be for cars with regular gas engines, to help recharge the regular 12V battery, which reduces the load from the engine to charge it, which should boost the MPG a bit. So ultimately, all you're really end up with are (1) bragging rights, (2) slightly improved MPG, supposedly, and (3) an extra couple grand tacked onto your car loan.

2015 Ford Edge Sport, it's paid for, but I'm not sure what I'd replace it with, love that engine.

The wife has a 2016 Honda HR-V which I hate, but it's her car.

We have a 2006 Hyundai Tuscon which is our dog-mobile as we have 4 dogs and we keep something around to haul them in. When it dies the wife's car will become the next dog-mobile, and she'll get something else, TBD.

I used to drive a truck, and I miss having the ability to haul things, but that's only a few times a year. My work vehicle is a Ford Escape, I could not imagine buying one it seems like such an economy vehicle.
