I have about $500 to spend on any of the following:

1) New monitor. I currently have a ViewSonic PS790 19 inch.. great monitor, but I wan't a flat screen, and possibly larger than 19 inch. Image quality is the largest factor here.

2) New speakers for my computer. I currently have the Altec Lansing ADA880R's... not a bad system, but they crap out at higher volumes, and I really don't like the fact that the drivers are made from paper. Can anyone actually recommend computer speakers made from a better material? Sound quality is the largest factor here. I also want quite a bit of bass.

I heard that the Klipsch speakers are very efficient and sound great. What does everyone recommend?

3) Save the money towards either buying a new car next year (trade in my 2000 Honda Civic, its too slow), or rice out my Civic.

Help!

Please don't rice out your Civic. Please.

Buy the Klipsch 2.1 or 4.1 or 5.1 depending on what you want, then use your $$ left over (if any) to buy a new Monitor. I'd recommend a Samsung or a Sony.

Here's the answer to your question in the form of a couple of questions.

Has a computer ever gotten you laid? Will a car help get you laid?

Nuff said....

A car will help you get laid? Bwahwahwahwa, I think not. If you need a car to help you get laid, you should invest in some plastic surgery...

getting laid isn't a problem.

Yeah... I was thinking i want one of these if I do the car:

the Nissan Z when it comes out
2002 Acura RSX Type S (problem is that Honda's have no torque)

your car is a 2000 model, and you don't race for a living, so why do you need more speed?

Get the Klipsch 4.1 speakers for 250ish, sell your 19" for 150ish, and then get a 19 or 21" flat screen job with your 400ish.....

It will help in the sense that he is mobile. Now the guys that buy sports cars to make up for a lack of size in the ol love worm department are a different story.

Well, here is a breakdown of possible solutions:

1 Red Type R Sticker ($20)
1 Blue Type R Sticker ($15)
Neon lights around license plate ($20)
Wing from a Boeing 747 ~$12000
Coffee Can Exhaust ~$2.25 plus labour

All up, shouldn't be that much, definately the way to go!!

who said I dont race for a living? Where do you think I come up with the extra cash? j/k.

oh, and in my case, i'm 17... driving a brand new car does get a lot of attention.... from cops too!

I was looking at the specs on the Klipsch.. I don't want the things, they use paper woofers. I think I might go out and buy a receiver and some real speakers for this thing.

I thought the Ricers were switching to wings off Airbus planes because the women dig French things? At least that's what I saw on the cover of Ricer's Monthly last time I was at the Dr's office.

DaLeroy,

actually, I really HATE rice boys.

If i do anything to my civic.. im doing it right. I wont put an exhaust tip on, I'll do the entire system. i hate those guys that do it the half-assed way.

I was just thinking I should make my computer a little more enjoyable to use, I work on here for a good chunk of the day.

The latest I heard is that they called the switch off, due to compatibility problems with a new sticker that adds at least 75 HP. Rumors are floating around that a fix is in the works, but it might drop total vacumn cleaner noise by ~0.5 dB and not too many ricer's are happy with this!

For $500 here's what I'd get:

1. Energy Take 5 speakers: probably run you $250 for the speakers from ebay
2. 10" sub: since you're on a budget get a used one, probably run you around $130 for a Cerwin Vega, Sony, or JBL (looks like you just want bass which is cool, because these subs will rumble but sound like ass for music)
3. Receiver: here's a good one, link

Okay so I went a little over, but this system would kick the crap out of those Klipsch.

Go for the receiver and speakers. I have a Boston Acustic sub and satellites for my computer but I also hooked it to my stereo. Now it's loud and clear. Now about the car...I used to be like you. I always wanted a new car. Don't do anything to your civic. You'll just lose money. If you want something faster, try a Mustang or Camero. It doesn't sound like you keep cars very long anyway, so if you get rid of it befor the warranty expires, you never have to worry about it being a piece.

Get a car man, even though they drain your bank account, and are nothing but a headache.

save it for a new car. it's not like you have a POS 15" monitor or really bad speakers. Save the cash for something more worthwile later or try to invest it to make some real money out of the 500

sorry dude but supraturbo.com is full of it. there is no substitute for cubic inches. technology helps but still..... I will not drive anything Japanese and anything FWD. European is preferable and I love my 93 Jag but American is better than Japanese. Those cars just have a cheap rickety underpower feel to them. I would never buy a Supra over a Vette or an NSX over a Viper.
