Your opinions on exchanging fans in Enermax ps?

I want to exchange the fans of the Enermax EG351P-VE with one Panaflo FBA08A12L1A and one FBA09A12L1A. What do you think? I can' t figure out what specs the Enermax fans (made by Globe) have, but the Panasonic fans should be the quietest fans around.

Why don't you consider swapping the power transistors with those bright red ones while you are at it???

I would leave it alone, but if you are determined to do that, make sure the Panaflo will fit. It's not a 25mm-thick fan, I believe it is 38mm thick and I can't picture it fitting in there (I have an Enermax 350 in the fleet). Also, keep in mind that the Panaflo fans you're thinking of are not ball-bearing fans, even though they are very nice... there might be an advantage to the ball-bearing fans for sheer longevity.

The Enermax dual fans use one 92x25mm fan,a nd one 80x25mm fan.

But they are virtually silent as is, so I really wouldn't bother switching out the fans.

Oh well, you guys persuaded me. This forum is really cool. It keeps me from doing stupid things. I already looked into the psu. It looked pretty easy to exchange the fans and the Panaflos seem to have the same size as the Globe fans. I was convinced that the Panaflos were ball bearing fans, because everyone recommended them. Panasonic describes it as hydro wave bearing. What is it? Sleeve bearing?! Anyway, I might modify one psu. I can' t help it. I want to know how stupid the idea really is.

HD2GO,

what is swapping the transistors good for? I don' t think I will do it, because I don' t know much about this stuff and it could be very dangerous to do something wrong. Or was it just irony, because of my silly plan?

lol!!! You can jack around if you want inside a power supply. Some of those big capacitors hold voltage for long time. Mess around and touch the wrong one with something metal and you'll get the h*ll knock out of you or worse. I knew of guy who opened a power supply of something, I forget what it was for, but it didn't supply high amps like pc power supply. He jacked around with it plugged it in and got electrocuted. You should never open the power supply of any electrical componenet unless you really know what your doing. Your butt can get lit up like a christmas tree.

I've opened up probably every single power supply i have ever had. I've never had one discharge on me. YOu just have to take common-sense precautions.

As far as hydro-wave bearings, i believe that is panasonic's custom sleeve-bearing design.

I was just kidding about swapping out power transistors because I think it's as silly as swapping out fan for the Enermax PS.

gaarth, these Panaflo fans are basically improved "sleeve bearing" fans that last longer. They have more detailed description here: http://www.panasonic.com/industrial_oem/other/other_components_fans_panaflo_axial.htm

ADDA also has similar patented technology called "Hypro Bearing" and according to them the life expectancy is around 40,000 hours, almost as long as ball bearing that lasts 50,000-60,000 hours. The benefit of having these enhanced sleeve bearing fans that they called "Hypro" or "Hydro-wave" in Panasonic's case, is that they are cheaper and quieter. This explains why Panaflo fans are very quiet... (no ball bearing noise)
