Just a crazy curiousity for all of you. I'm curious what kind of phone system you use at work? I'm sure many of you are cube rats (see dilbert for the definition) so I was curious what kind of phones you had in your office or your cube? Here at work we use all Lucent phones. They're ok, but I think there are others that are better.

What do you use?

Lucent 8434DX

note the lovely pricetag

sometimes i think this phone is better than i give it credit for, but i can't figure out how to unlock it's full potential. i'd like a feature that lets you call back the last number that called you. they display it on the screen, so i know it knows the number.

Holy $#@! this regular phone costs $193???

We have an ACD line, I have a direct dial number and a headset (which I never use).

When I was in the mortgage department of the bank it was great, we had a toll free phone with extension number, direct dial number and toll free fax as well.

When I was a consumer loan CSR I had a really fancy Nortel Meridian phone, can't remember the model #. It wasn't a regular phone, there was no dial tone, you had like 3 lines, it displayed the incoming callers loan account number (assuming they entered it into the ARU/VRU correctly and were verified) and it even did a little greeting before transferring the call.

I'm sooooooooooooo glad that I don't work in a call center anymore.

Actually, on all lucent phones, save a rare few, the default redial is *9 for a number you just dialed, and #9 to call back the last person who called you.

If it doesn't work on your phone, you might be one of the unlucky few.

hmm just tried it... *9 does nothing and #9 dials back the last number that i dialed. i guess i'll have to pour through the user manual at some point.

We're running an Avaya Definity system with mostly Callmaster V phones. Much, much easier to administer than our previous Nortel system. A lot of the Avaya stuff is interchangable with Lucent equipment. Trust me, there are some bizarre functions in that stuff!

All I got is probally the first touch tone dial phone ever. It doesn't even have a digital ringer, or custom ringers. If I want to transfer someone, I gotta press those two plastic dealies at the top and punch in the number. If I want to raise the ringer volume, I gotta pick it up and look under it, move the knob.

Cisco Voice over IP, Best phones in the world. I've seen these used by CNN, troops oversea, and the TV show Alias

If you have internet access, you can use this phone. Sometimes, I would take it home, plug it into cisco vpn router, and literally call to the office as if I was there Same idea if I travel from corporate to satellite office, plug and call!

Total implementation cost > $500K :Q

Our desktop phones are cheap (AT&T 957's) but our phone system is full VPN VoIP w/software for full control through each user's PC and is integrated with our database software. It's pretty cool. All phone options (including voice mail/call forwarding) are handled in Windows and I can call out to each contact with a single mouse click or, on incoming calls, it caller-ID's the incoming number and if that number is found in the database, it pops up the contact right away.
edit: I also have toll-free with extension, direct-dial (local number), remote voice mail administration, call-forwarding/call-routing with a ton of varying rule sets (time of day/day of week/etc.) and direct-dial fax (handled by fax server and served up to my desktop via email). But then almost my whole business is over the phone and I have to be available to my customers/contacts 24/7.
