Those of you that missed or didn't pull the trigger because of the non-sxga+ screen, here is your 2nd chance. With the share holder discount code floating around, I've just ordered one, model #2379dju. Other than the nicer screen, it also has 256mb of ram, 32mb ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 card, 3yr warranty, xp pro, cd-rw/dvd combo, 40gb hard drive, all for $1745.10. A samiliar speced Dell D600 is close to $2000 before rebate. I think this is an awesome deal, free shipping, they charged me tax thou, than again, so is dell small business!

I don't mean to crap on your deal, but is this really HOT?

I'm looking for a laptop with a similar configuration, and I love the T41 build quality. But I'm not sure that I think this is that big a savings, and it seems like these SPP deals are available year round..

it is hot for someone that NEEDS a notebook at this moment in time. My old laptop just died and I was gonna order a dell d600 for around $1900 after rebate. This is not a "I am buying this just because the price is good, but I don't really need another laptop" hotdeal.

you are comparing apple to an orange, how much does your compaq weight? the IBM T41 is around 4.5lbs, maybe 5ish in real life. A better match up would be a dell d600, a 600m, maybe, if you don't mind the plastic casing, the IBM has metal casing. Folks, we are not talking about getting the cheapest laptop on the planet, as this is obviously not.

I think this is a "centrino" too, could someone verify that?

it's listed as $1939, you need to find the epp code to get the discount.

Get the thinkpad. I've had two and I loved them both. The T-series is so light, plus they're super durable. The new ones have a technology that detects a falling notebook and stops the HDD so it doesn't crash on you. I've actually dropped my T21 about a foot onto hardwood floors and it's still chugging along. The battery life is supurb, I get over 2 hours and it's over three years old.

If this comes with the 3 year warrenty, that's even better. IBM warranties are GREAT.

any advice?

Defiinitely the ThinkPad. ThinkPads are built way better than Dells, and anything else out there. Well, except for PowerBooks. IMO, they're about equal. You won't regret the ThinkPad.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop, though, the T41 isn't exactly meant for that. The Dell would be better since you can configure the Dell with a 128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 PRO Turbo.

My prayers would be answered if this were $1399 or less shipped

This is one of THE BEST all around laptops in the world.

My prayers would be if this were the 15" PowerBook for "$1399 or less shipped."

Dells suck for real gaming, if you want a gaming laptop go for a voodoo or alienware... I've heard good things about abs' laptop also. and it's way cheaper then voodoo and alienware. But as always, you get what you pay for. Voodoo and alienware never have deals either.

Yeah, of course a Voodoo or an Alienware would be better, but they'll run you $3000+. If that's the case, then s/he might as well just build a desktop system.
