Which mechanical keyboard switch do you like best?

I prefer MX Brown which is a good compromise with typing and gaming.

Have MX blue at work and MX brown at home. I like extra tactile support of blue. Mx brown is not bad either.

Only spent time with ALPS black, MX black, MX blue and MX brown and MX blue is my favorite. I don't really mind that it's "not suitable" for gaming. The reassurance of the tactile feedback and a click is more important.

Buckling Springs just destroy any MX switch in whatever part of the brain that makes typing enjoyable. Everyone knows this.

Other: buckling spring. I use a 122-key keyboard by Unicomp. Makes Cherry switches feel like cheap toys.

Are there any tenkeyless buckling spring keyboards? I want to try one now.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: IBM made a model called the SSK once upon a time. Now they are very difficult to get (and used if you do get one). There are always rumors that Unicomp, who now own the old IBM manufacturing facilities, may revive the tenkeyless design. However, they need quite a bit of demand because buckling spring keyboards are made on a press with all of the key cylinders in one mold and the cost of making new molds is prohibitive.

It's a shame Unicomp hasn't created a NKRO board. They have missed out on a huge opportunity to monopolize the high-end keyboard market. Instead those who really want it have to scour eBay continuously for a model FAT or plop down $350 for a converted XT boardthat is over 30 years old.

I was intrigued with Greens until I read the actuation force is more than the bottom out force in MX Blacks. I don't even have to try them to tell you that is the worst keyboard ever invented unless your fingers look like

A capacitive switched buckling spring key, of course! But, browns come in second.

Definitely buckling spring. Not good for gaming, but I got a G15 for that. This is my everyday use keyboard. Fully bolt-modded and converted to ANSI.

This is the converter I built so the board will work with PC's

i find red cherry switches mushy and feeble. i find blacks semi-mushy and barely acceptable. i think i'l do fine with greens and then some.

seriously, 85 grams is too much ?? 25 grams difference. :/

I actually really typing on the reds. I find that I don't need a tactile bump to avoid bottoming out the key, I can actually do that quite often without needing any feedback other than the character on the screen. The light touch makes typing very low effort and its a really nice feeling having come from a G15 keyboard.

I tried some browns and I really disliked the tactile bump they have. The action just wasn't smooth around the bump and they felt sticky.

My ione scorpius m10 and razer blackwidow ultimate both use the mx blues which are my favorite. My Logitech g710+ uses the mx browns which I don't like as much.

Buckling springs all the way, except I can't use them any longer due to the insanely loud racket they make-->highly disruptive while on the phone (which is often at home office).

Cherry browns took some time to get used to, but I find they're the ideal compromise between noise and tactility.

Cherry blues are OK, but still loud enough that I'd rather just go all-in with BS if it came down to a choice between the two.

For notebooks, nothing beats the Thinkpad KB. I actually use the USB desktop version in the office, as it's sufficiently tactile to facilitate productivity, yet quiet enough to not cause any disruptions.

I like browns over the others. I tested them using that wasd kit. Reds felt far too easy/mushy, blues were loud, and the blacks felt like they would tire out my fingers from the higher force required for them.

I've always loved my blues. They feel amazing to type on and I've typed bundles of essays on the same MX blues for years. Plus, it always sounds like there is a war going on in my room when I type.

Whatever is in IBM Model M. Yes I still have a few.

Unicomp is the company that makes new ones now.
