ndee,

Since you are using a video card which isn't capable of 32-bit color, your scores are not comparable to ours.

update: now running win98 and micron ram that's 2-2-2 @ 133mhz

socket a tbird 1000@1000

high quality, 1024x768, no sound

demo001 95.3fps

second update: overclocked my vid card to 220/364(max) and cpu to 1224(12*102), ram at 136mhz 2-2-2

high quality 1024x768= 106.7 fps
normal quality 640x480= 161.3 fps

My setup:

Celeron2 533->800
128MB ram
TNT2Pro 175/190 (shush, i'm poor )

HQ 800x600 no sound (w/ sound was pretty much the same tho)
47.3 FPS

Ain't that fast ? Didn't even want to see 1024

I don't see the point of disabling sound. Its not "REAL" as your topic claims, as I don't think anyone plays Quake 3 without sound, unless they're deaf or something. The soundcard is a part of the system too, and an important one for gaming, so why take it out of the equation when you're obviously going to use it while playing? Also, why are these settings "REAL" as opposed to others? They are not specific, as there are many in game options that can affect framerate too.

The reason for disabling sound is I wanted to see CPU/Video card performance... not how much CPU utilization their sound card takes. The reason I used these settings is because the only way their settings will be different is IF they went in and changed the cfg file for the game. If you set HQ then 1024x768 that sets all the video settings to the same for everyone unless like I said they changed the cfg.

Ahh I like this, a thread about game scores instead of 3DMark

1024x768 - 69.8

TBird 800@840
K7M
224MB RAM
Voodoo5 5500

Right now I'm not as overclocked as I can go....I can push the TBird up to 952 with FSB tweaking, and the V5 will go up to 172(oh wow), so that might push me a little higher.

It was just a catchy title, basically the point of the thread is to get everyone running similar Q3 timedemos, since there are so many factors that can change your Q3 scores. It seems that at 1024x768x32 High Quality, Q3 is pushing the video card and memory bandwidth the most, since I see some scores faster than mine with slower cpu's(not by much tho). Here's my score:

1024x768x32 HQ(no sound): 105 fps

P3 850@1020, GF2 210/390

To all the Voodoo 3 owners, remember the V3 doesn't support large textures or 32 bit colour so your results are invalid. Hence the reason why I am not posting my scores.

Dulanic, actually, other than the graphical options(i.e. HQ 1024x768) there are many other in-game options that can be accessed by the game menus, that can affect performance too. Almost everything, if not all the options in "game options" can have an effect on the framerate. Things like ejecting brass, HQ sky, dynamic lighting, marks on walls, etc. They are not set to any default configuration via the graphical options, but are independent of them.

As for the disabling of sound, if your reason is to isolate the CPU/Video subsystem, then fine, its a valid point, but it wouldn't be REAL Quake 3 benchmark like your topic says. Rather, it'll be a contrived case study in an isolated environment.

Well when I meant real... I just meant everyone on the same scale... making them comparable. All these other Q3 benchmark threads I see are filled with everyone running totally different settings.

What about dynamic lighting and marks on walls? those affect FPS a lot.

your settings with dynamic lighting and marks on walls off:
64.3fps
your settings with dynamic lighting and marks on walls ON:
55.8fps

Asus P3V4X
Celeron 566 @ 850
256MB @ 133mhz
Voodoo3-2000 @ 183MHz

not bad for my 19 month old video card and my ass-cheap processor.

I normally run 800x600 with the HQ settings, dynamic lights & marks on walls off and get 91FPS. Tell me why I should upgrade? the damn thing is playing all my games fine and well above 60fps...i can't justify spending money on a geforce/2. Maybe I'll wait out yet another generation of video cards and maybe I'll be ready to upgrade then.

edit: i also have 4-way memory interleaving enabled on my system, that helps quite a bit too.
