Cranked 100%. Most of the music I have the drummers hammer on double-bass drums creating an insane thumping. Pisses off my parents sometimes. Probably when I move to an apartment, I'll have to turn it down or sue headphones. Until then....ALL THE WAY!

Sub is somewhere around the middle, I'm not a riceboy, so I don't like overpowering bass.

i have my BA 7500 a little less than halfway. these speakers are about 4 and a half years old too

Cambridge MegaWorks 550 THX (BassCube 821 sub) at 50%. Treble is also at 50%. These speakers just seem to sound best when settings are left at their defaults (even software equalizers).

If I may make a suggestion - reverse one of the subs (so that the motor structure faces outward) and reverse the polarity to that one (whichever way it's wired, just reverse it). This will lower distortion a bit.

I wish I had a home to do what BentValve has going on...that's some serious airflow there

But for precision and depth, a Velodyne DD12 is what does the job for me...usually it's off, but when it's on, it's at whatever level the calibration said was flat with my system. I can't wait for their self-optimizing software too.

I piss off my neighbors pretty baddly.

I have a set of Z-640s on one of my computers because it's a great set for the price. The bass, however, isn't that great. It's not very loud, and it's very muddy. Again, it's great for the price.

On my good computer, I use Logitech Z-2300s or my Sennheiser HD-280 Pro headphones with an Audigy 2 ZS. I would set the sub to 50%, but this room has terrible acoustics. The bass sounds absent when I'm seated, but if I move back about 4ft and go to the right 2ft, it's LOUD. So, I have it turned all the way up to make it sound balanced while I'm seated. It shakes the walls and pictures, sometimes knocks things down, and when I'm standing in the loud spot of the room and look at my CRT, the image appears to ripple like it does when I talk very low (~65-75hz).

From downstairs, the kitchen floor and walls vibrate. It can be heard plainly throughout the house and from the deck outside.

I never turn the system volume past ~80%, and I leave the master volume control on the Z-2300s set to 50%. That means I've never played the set louder than 40% of its volume. I'd hate to hear it approaching 75%...

It would also cut the output in half, IB subs already have way less distortion than your typical subwoofer..this one especially.

How would it cut the output? He said also reverse the polarity.

Uh, note that I said to reverse the polarity along with the mounting direction. It'll still end up firing in the same direction as the one on the bottom.

If you have a pair of subs linked together mechanically, having one fire toward the motor structure while the other fires away from it (either in phase or out of phase, but obviously in phase has a lot more output) non-linear distortion can be reduced by up to 50%.

Last thing: just because it has less distortion doesn't mean you can't lower it.

Oops, last last thing: if you were to run them out of phase, the output wouldn't halve, it would drop to almost zero, with the lower frequencies more attentuated.
