I can't believe that only 2 people said Diablo... That game rocked. Actually Diablo II LOD is still one of my favorites, it never gets old.

I thought Diablo II was mind numbingly repetitive.

It was... I played the single player game, and then I played it online. It was definitey fun for a short while, but not revolutionary in any way.

Might as well add my 2 cents.

1. System Shock 2
2. Half Life
3. MOH and add-ons
4. Leisure Suit Larry - this is when I knew I was going to be a gamer for life
5. Tetris - I was addicted for years!

1. Operation Flashpoint
2. Total Annihilation
3. Age of Empires
4. Unreal Tournament
5. Call of Duty

Games are too short nowadays....due to mulitplayer. Before multiplayer came on board, the single player aspect was much better.

1. Deus Ex (so good my quest in life is to find another like it!)
2. System Shock 2 (so good it almost ended the above-mentioned quest)
3. Quake 2
4. UT
5. Warcraft 3

Looking forward to replacing one or above with Doom III or HL2.

Yes, but trading was mind numbingly addictive . Now that I look back at Diablo II, I really don't understand how I was so obsessed with it.

Choosing only 5 is difficult (judging from Camofrog's list of "5", I think he agrees, too!!!). This list doesn't include mods, of which, Red Orchestra is my favorite (UT2K3 mod, check it out here: Red Orchestra Homepage)

1) Unreal Tournament
2) Starcraft
3) Master of Orion
4) Diablo II
5) Mail Order Monsters

It's too hard to rank favorites exactly, but right now if you put a gun to my head I'd probably say:

1) Planescape: Torment
2) Master of Orion
3) Privateer
4) X-Com: UFO Defense
5) Half-Life

It can be repetitive but it can also be addictive as hell, especially if you really start going after items and/or developing your skill tree to perfection.

I couldn't give you a top 5 without a lot of thought, I've been gaming 10+ years and can't quite agree w/ the most recent FPS games being top of all time...

One I can definitely agree with is Half-Life. I doubt any game has sold more, or been played more years by it's loyal fans.

Next up would be Red Alert, maybe...Blizzard games are strong candidates too.

One I don't think anyone has mentioned - SCORCHED EARTH! I loved that game. I still get a kick out of it.

Tribes is also awesome - I missed out on the original but was a huge fan of Tribes 2. Everyone talks about vehicle support, that's where it started and it still holds up well.

My first system was a 386 SX 16Mhz like someone else
40MB HDD doublespaced to 80!!! 1MB RAM, 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives

Hmmm, this is a list that could very well be revised with some thinking, but just quickly...in no particular order:

Doom
Loom
Civilization
Fallout
Elite II

1- Subspace...I was hooked for years playing that game
2- Unreal Tourney...couldn't wait to get home from work to unload some frustrations
3- Max Payne - first non-multiplayer game to keep me interested
4- Max Payne2 - same as #3
5- Solider of Fortune2 - great multiplayer until lately...can't find a good server to play on now.

I had Fallout 2 for awhile, but I don't think I gave myself enough time to learn how to play it. If I remember correctly, that was about the time I also picked up Diablo....hence precious little time was left after playing Diablo constantly!!
