If i won the lottery, i would have much better things to do with my time than building a new computer. I would just visit Alienware and buy their top of the line machine.

No kidding.

I wouldnt buy a uber computer, just upgrade it a lot. Although I would really like those dell PowerEdge racks for storage.

Realistically I would never spend $25,000 unless I was filthy rich. But for the sake of the post, I would probably build a Quad Xeon MP with that Tyan Motherboard (forgot model number), Platypus 8GB of solid state, 24GB DDR266, the best model of the 3DLabs WildCat 4, one of those nice 23" Apple Cinema Displays. Im forgetting some stuff, but that's an outline.

Solid State drives for OS and programs to start. Then probably the usual top end stuff with dual 20" lcds and a high end projection system.

I would spend it ont 3 or 4 systems in reality if I had to spend it right away and on computers, but otherwise the following:

P4 3.2Ghz
4x 1GB PC3x00 modules Cas2
That video post in the video section some time back with 32x 8500 GPUs
10x 15,000RPM SCSI Fujitsu MAS drives @ 73GB or whatever is their highest (Maybe 20 if money allows) on Raid 10
Audigy 2 Platinum
Logitech MX700 mouse
A couple of those Apple flat panel monitors
Random Free After Rebate Keyboard
Couple of the most expensive DVD burners
52x CDRW
Solid State Drives, as many as I can fit
A ton of backup power so I can use the STD's (lol) 24x7
Intel 875P board
A nice Custom Case

I thi nk that would go beyond the $25,000 limit especially with those monitors but if their is anything left over it just adds on to more hard drives... lol

I'd just pick up a 3.2 GHz-C along with a supporting motherboard and two sticks of 512 MB DDR400. I'd also wait for a 9900 Pro and then get it.

Then I'd save the money and keep upgrading every six months to get the new top of the line parts.

My technique is pretty conservative but highly effective. Why blow all of your money on useless parts when you can save it and keep upgrading every six months until it runs out?

:sigh:

Because the *entire* point of this thread is for you to spend it all on one system. I don't see why you guys don't get that.

Well, if peripherals are part of the equation, it becomes easier:

Computer: Any fast PIV w/875, SATA etc
Case: custom built hardwood silent enclosure. Hire a master cabinetmaker to construct it to fit standard ATX components. Custom CNC machined huge heatsinks milled to fit the enclosure allow low speed baffled airflow from 1 huge fan at the back to effectively cool entire system.
Primary display: 19"-21" 16ms response LCD 1600x1200 (if one exists)
Secondary Display: HDTV Capable LCD DLP Projector with 12' screen
Sound Card 1: Audigy 2 for games and movies
"Sound Card" 2: MOTU 8 channel 24/192 firewire interface x2
Speakers: 4 Mackie HR 8/24 powered monitors, front and rear, with matching 6/24 centre channel and subwoofer.
If I could justify a mic as part of the 25K, that would cover the balance.

And if I could throw in Herman Miller Chair, then I would be truly a happy nerd.
