9800 pro (never knew vice city could be played without lag until this)
X1900XT (noisey POS that died)
7900 GTO (replacement for above, worked well, quiet)
5850 (great so far, super powerful and quiet too)

There was stuff before that but i didnt personally buy it, just came with the comp usually.

oem trident 1mb vga

Nice. My first Video card upgrade was in 94 when I changed my crappy ISA card with a VLB Trident 512KB, the 2D performance jumped through the roof, haha

In 96 I bought:
Diamond Edge 3D 4MB (based on NV1). That was the first Nvidia card, it had 2D, 3D, sound, and two ports that connect to Sega Saturn controllers! It was an great idea by Nvidia, too bad it's 2D performance sucked, and their 3D API didn't support DirectX.

Diamond Stealth 3D 4MB (based on S3 VIRGE). Fast 2D but 3D performance was like a slideshow.

Orchid Righteous 3D (based on 3DFx Voodoo1). Awesome 3D performance

3dfx voodoo 3 2000 pci

That was the first card I picked up to buy, but the clerk at Babbage's pointed out that the 3000 AGP ($99.99 on sale vs. $79.99 for the 2000) was worth at least a $50 step up, let alone $20.

Whether he was exaggerating or not I'll never know, but I sure was happy with the 3000.

I didn't know anything about AGP vs. PCI back then; I had just bought my first desktop ever.

My first "gaming" card was an Adrenaline Rush from Jazz Multimedia.

I believe it was one of the first to do 2D/3D on the same card. I remember being very disappointed.

My first card was an MSI GeForce 4 MX4000 128MB.

Since then I've upgraded through:
6600GT - 128MB
X850 XT - 256MB
8800GTS - 320MB
4870 - 1GB (current)

Next up: Not sure yet. =)

Does a full-length 8-bit ISA Hercules monographics card count? High-res (compared to CGA) for the win!

Edit: I think mine was a clone though, not a real branded Hercules card. It worked with Herc drivers.

Ahh, those were the days...

My first video card was a 80 column card for the Apple IIe. Boy do I feel old...

No love for Tseng Labs?

In 1991 I bought a Gateway 2000 386DX-25 system that had an ET4000 chipset video card in it. Funny thing was, at the time I didn't know what that meant. Turned out to be a good decision due to the support for that chip from lots of games/freeware/shareware at the time.

ATI Radeon 7000 64MB! (I think it was 7000)

I remember I was in high school and my friend had bought a 32MB one and we were totally amazed at the graphics of Serious Sam now that he had a card that could handle it. Then maybe a week later I went and bought the 64MB which was the next generation of his and he was like "Damn you!"

Yeah I had that for about 2 weeks until I returned it to Futureshop, the card still sucked back then . high 5 though!

The very first card that I could call my own was a Powercolor Geforce MX400. At that time, Counter Strike was the craze, Warcraft III was coming out of beta and Starcraft was fading out of its prime. Great, reliable card.

Replaced that with a Geforce 3 Ti with a broken capacitor that I taped back on.

Then the following:

MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200
ATI 9600XT AIW
XFX Geforce 6600GT
Geforce 6800 NU AGP - unlocked
ATI X800 XL
BFG 6800GT
EVGA 7800GT
MSI 7900 GS <-- Woot.com fiasco
ATI X1900 AIW <-- worst card I've ever purchased
ATI X1800XT 512mb
ATI X1900XT 512mb
EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb
EVGA Geforce 8800 GT 512mb
Powercolor ATI 4850 512mb <-- 2nd worst card I've ever purchased
ATI 4870 1gb

Out of all these videocards, I would have to say the very first one I purchased was my favorite. The MX400 wasn't exactly a beast, but I remember turning on FPS in the console on counterstrike and seeing it hit 100!

I noticed you went from an EVGA 7800 GT (same card as mine)
to
"MSI 7900 GS <-- Woot.com fiasco
ATI X1900 AIW <-- worst card I've ever purchased
ATI X1800XT 512mb
ATI X1900XT 512mb"

Why the sudden bumper to bumper jumps? I remember jumping from my 7800Gt to a X1950 XT 256MB, didn't quite like either.
