5,436 police reports of all Walmart's within 10miles of me. I avoid Walmart at all costs and this is just another reason why not go there and seeing as it is more lower-income people that shop there, more crime comes hand in hand

You can read the reports I found some interesting ones such as someone stabbing their child with knife on one. Although you're right there are a lot of shoplifting ones.

I saw this and thought it sounded about right, walmarts around here have very poorly lit parking lots at night and that probably helps contribute to crimes being they're open 24/7.

Walmart carries cheap generic Splenda, so I will continue to go there when I need it (I say this though I just discovered it last week). Haven't been stabbed so far.

Couldn't find any stats on customers per year but I think this tells enough:

FY2005 Revenue Walmart: 315,654,000,000

FY2005 Revenue Target: 52,620,000,000

That basically says everything right there. Targets close at 10PM and don't open back up until 8PM more often than not. Wal-Mart is open 24/7 so they have 10 hours extra a day for something to happen. Not to mention those 10 hours are probably the most dangerous hours for ANY business.

Throw in the greater volume of people that go through Wal-Mart than a Target and it is no surprise.

A per capita comparison would probably have been better.

9848 at the worst Wal-Mart around me, with 679 cases of 400 pound behemoths with 11 oversized children swarming and eating another customer.

I believe they analyzed 460 stores from each company probably in similar areas, walmart has a lot more stores than target obviously, so they have a lot more revenue as well.

I'm reading the full report right now. But the first thing I noticed is that Pennsylvania (where I live) has the lowest number of crimes reported per store.

edit: all right, they use these claims of 551 stores and then 460 stores when in the end they actually pick the 32 worst stores and then use them to compare to nearby Targets. Talk about cherry picking...

What if Target has a company policy of not caring and that's why they have fewer police calls?

My closest Walmart isn't listed but I know most of their calls are for bad checks and shoplifters.
