You're going on a roadtrip with an unreliable car, what do you bring?

For my list, I was imagining that you'd be driving cross country through a dangerous area - Death Valley, Yukon Territory, undeveloped areas of Africa, etc.

I forgot to add to my list:
- water
- food
- basic automotive fluids (oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid, starting fluid, penetrating oil)
- JB Weld, silicone sealer
- 12v to 120v power inverter
- jumper cables
- tow strap
- spare fuses
- first aid kit
- medications (Advil, Tylenol, Imodium, Asprin, etc.)
- lighters
- multi-tool with a good blade

I would bring a couple quarts of oil, a jug of premix antifreeze, belt (especially if it is a serpentine type), some hand tools, roll of tape that can seal radiator hoses if it should leak. That will take care of most things.

Title pretty much explains it. What do you bring? We're assuming it's a compact car and that you can't bring everything. You have to limit what you bring quite significantly down to one modestly medium sized tool bag.

Well boys, you ain't helping me too much. I've got an idea of the tools I'll be bringing. A lot of sockets, a large breaker bar, pry bar, and some other stuff. I will probably bring my jack and jack stands just because I am helping a friend work on his car when I do get to where I am landing. (And I'm not going to be at a space premium because I'll be traveling solo)

The best part of this is that I'm driving through the hottest parts of the continental United States tomorrow for 11-12 hours. It's gonna be nothing but good times. Oh, I forgot to mention that my car /still/ doesn't have functioning AC either. :awe:

The cost on parts for that recently came down. I might fix it sooner than later. :awe:

Plan you trip for late night on that part.

I lived in CA/NV for 3 years without A/C for one of our vehicles. You learn to plan accordingly
