This is quite true. I'd like to think that I alone am responsible for my actions, thus, I am also the one to blame when soemthing goes wrong. You need to start making choices for yourself, because only you can make things right again.

EDIT: I misread what you wrote, UNCjigga. If you believe in God, that's your own decisions. Just don't base your life around a belief.

You cannot do otherwise than base your life on what you believe. If you say you believe in God and you don't base your life on it, then you don't really believe (the situation of many religious people.)

First of all, if your priest told you that, I'd find a new source of counseling, religious or non religious. Second of all, I'd recognize that God never abandons ANYBODY, no matter how bad or unfortunate their life. Thirdly, I'd identify the source of my issues and put together a game plan for working my way out of them.

if everything was a bowl of cherries it wouldn't be "living on earth". haven't met anyone who has had a cross to bear in one way or another. some things are products of our environment, other things happen because of what other people do. when you get down just remember somebody out there is having a worse time in this life than either you or I so when things get bad I just try to "offer it up" and keep on going.

Read the book of Job? If you truely believe, and can make it through these hard times, you'll be much better off in the long run. Or you can just throw it all away and do whatever you want. ATOT isn't exactly a good place for serious religious discussions, and since I'm sure you already know that, the latter option is probably best.

It all depends on what you expect out of God. Personally, I don't think that he sits up there and controls every little thing that happens. That would ruin the concept of "free will."

I have felt like God has abandoned me until I realize that God isn't necessarily going to take an active day to day role in my life.
