What would you do?

Me: Run to a suitable cover and yell out, "Stop or I'll shoot." No other warning. Then proceed to shoot from closest to farthest if they keep advancing. I'm not going to show my gun until I have to aim and shoot (one action). I'm not sure how to avoid legal troubles in this kind of situation though. Can't prove to cops that my life was in danger. Been trying to think of a way not to get into trouble with the law in this kind of situation.

Aim for DCM...dead center mass. Your shot may not kill them...but you'll do enough damage to probably eliminate the threat.

Here is a hint, you NEVER shoot to maim unless you're a highly highly qualified and trained marksman. I'm not just talking you shoot a lot, but you're in some sort of specialized tactical or SOC unit. Even then, use of such a shot are very limited. Warning shots do exist, but not for concealed weapons permit holders. Drawing a firearm warns someone, after that, it's shoot to kill.

Personally I would not start running from random guys, however scary they seemed. Pick up the pace maybe, or head towards somewhere more crowded. Perhaps pre-dial 911 on my phone in case of an encounter and check streets for exact cross sections. It's illegal to carry in Illinois so I wouldn't be armed.

Not if you kill them first. You have the element of surprise. They don't know that you are carrying.

BTW this situation is realistic. I'm not sure what is so hard to imagine about it. Obviously in real life you won't know if they're armed. Some actions might get you killed so you should avoid doing them if possible.

Maybe you can get to cover and pull out your gun to warn them but then you lose the element of surprise so if they really want you dead you will probably die.
