Everytime Youtube makes big changes I think it's the end and there's always an uproar but it always comes back stronger. I discovered youtube a few months before google bought it as soon as they took over and got rid of the illegal uploads like all the ufc fights, it sucked but it came back. Last year it was gaming videos that was a disaster but it still seems strong.

Youtube is great but I would like to see strong competion because I fricken hate the way they are going, especially with google plus.

Wow, that really sucks for the indies. I don't use Youtube for my music, but I know youngsters pretty much use it exclusively to get their music. Now they will still be able to get their major label stuff, which is probably what the majority of kids listen to anyway, but in the past maybe that would to lead them to find some smaller bands there...no longer apparently. Could be a big hit to the small amount the indies make right now.

Nah... just an opportunity for some up and coming small company to host and advertise stuff from independent artists. Getting kicked off youtube is not the end of the world.

As noted in an article about the K-Pop artist Psy making money from YouTube ads earlier this week, if a song becomes popular enough, any clip that uses the original music and earns ad revenue is either taken down immediately or split with the track’s owner. Artists make money whenever a cover version, fan-style lyric video, or live version is uploaded on the site and accrue views. As noted in the case of Psy, all of those thousands of additional videos helped him earn over $2 million from ads alone. Soon, all of those would be taken down, and artist revenue could drop.

There's a group in my area that stakes out local places to make sure that local performing artists & bands are paying the cash to the original artist's company for covering songs. Gimme a break

I keep seeing MySpace trying to make a comeback as a music host, maybe this will be their chance...

I am going to be honest: everything posted "independently" on youtube is complete shit.

Independent labels are upset they don't get the same deals as labels with 100 times their output?

The site itself is equally fucking stupid. You have to be logged in as a google plus user to fucking watch videos? It asks me "who do you want to watch this as" and "use your real name". No, I want to watch this fucking cat video. I don't want to participate in the filth that is the comment section and I don't want to sign up for anything.

Hmmm...this could be problematic. I wonder how it will affect the channels that play independent music?

Also - premium for ad free? I hope that means no changes in ad block's functionality

I just hope the fan made videos, especially "epic music" will stay. I would hate to lose them.

OMG... I'm going to counter that with this!

Blocked. Must not be worth watching.

I'll also add "vloggers" to my list of things that are worthless on youtube. Nobody gives a fuck about your twatfaced opinion on anything.

The only videos that should be allowed are how to videos and educational material. They really need to remove pretty much everyone's access to post from youtube. Unless you're Bill Nye, or some other respected person, or a reviewed and deemed valid contributor, stfu.

Capitalism at it's finest. The big name labels probably lobbied for this to happen. then again Youtube has always been on their side anyway so they could have done this on their own will. They don't like competition, they especially don't like those pesky artists who think it's ok to make music and art free instead of making it into a commercialized product.

There really needs to be a big competitor to youtube. It also needs to be partially decentralized and setup in a way where videos can't be brought down due to a single person or oganization's views. Some kind of p2p video, music, and file upload service perhaps.

Every time I try to watch a video a popup asks me who I want to "view it as". Um, I want to view it as Tom Brady. I'm sure that will change my perspective on this compilation of Arnold quotes...

Corporatism strikes again.

Legal corporate extortion afaic. "Take my new licensing terms for your content or gtfo." The site is built with one ideology and format, then the purchasing company wants to squeeze it for more profit and exercise it's industry influence to strong arm the little guys. They're doing this because they can and there isn't much competition for others to upload their content to and get the same level of exposure. Everyone likes their favorite companies to get real big until it turns around and bites the hands that feed them to help their growth.

Vlogging is what youtube was created for I think. You know, people that want to make videos and don't have a tv show. But then google bought it, now they monetize their videos and it's getting quite competitive.

It seems to be getting harder to find a educational video series like I was just learning Sibelius 7 (music notation software) and the better tutorial videos basically stop before anything interesting is revealing and try and get to to be a paid subscriber.
I actually saw that for music theory and guitar lesson videos as well. They give you an example, they act like a "little guy" helping out the world but then try and get hundreds of dollars for the entire video series.

Google owns Youtube, and already has a music streaming service that sounds exactly like this new Youtube program. I wonder what the goal is here...
