Youtube blocking is out of control. If they somehow think you might be blocking ads, they are blocking video. Yes, I run ad blockers, but YouTube is whitelisted. Yes, I have safe browsing feature on my router, but Youtube is whitelisted.

It's a power grab to sucker you out of $14 per month, and they can shove that where the sun don't shine.

There are too many workarounds... just takes an extra click or two...

I have heard many people complain about it, i got the pop up 1 time on my macbook using firefox and ublock, i let firefox update and have not seen that pop up since. I haven't gotten it at all on my w10 system using firefox/ublock , i have heard if you are still getting the pop ups to delete your custom filters, make sure it's update (again firefox)

I hadn't realized how bad youtube ads have gotten until I tried watching youtube on Roku where adblockers aren't possible. That didn't last long as it's unwatchable. If I want to watch youtube on the set, I'll stream it from a browser with adblocker.

Considering that Youtube Premium also includes Youtube Music (which to me is essentially as good as spotify, amazon, etc.) for no additional cost and that youtube claims to give providers a portion of the premium's cost to compensate for lack of ad income to me it is well worth it. It's certainly the streaming service I use the most.

I have Amazon Music, which I share with the family, which Amazon allows.

Do they share this with all providers? There are many I don't want to share with, I want to choose.

For $13.99/month, they can pound sand, there will always be workarounds, and I expect more will be coming. Guessing, Google executives are wanting to upgrade their yachts, or buy another vacation villa.

I think they give you 3 videos using an adblocker before you're cut off for the session. That would probably work for me. I don't watch much youtube. Otherwise, yt-dlp probably works.

I've been seeing warnings too. I have a feeling this will be implemented in stages. Hopefully this is something ublock can keep up with.

I sometimes toy with getting premium as I think it helps the creators, but at same time I don't want another monthly fee, and now that they are pulling this stuff off I won't give in.

I use ublock origin with chrome, and adguard dns servers. Haven't seen an ad anywhere for over a decade, including Youtube.

To give you an idea of how invasive YT ads have become, I am currently watching a YT video, using a workaround, while both blocking ads, and trackers.

It is actually quicker and easier to workaround, than all the steps necessary to skip ads, after the lag they impose. Nor am I interested in some lovely woman's attention that works in a boiler room in some Asian country.

32 ads and 3 trackers!

No, we won't put too many ads before, during, and after video's, you will still be able to enjoy the content...

Facebook definitely has ads.
These numbers represent ads that are blocked at my laptop.

My router is running Google* Safe Browsing, configured to block advertising. This works well especially for devices, i.e. phones, where configuring ad blocking is more of a challenge, or really not practical. I notice this many apps on my phone, from local media to games. When not at home behind my router, some are ripe with ads, some games are virtually unplayable due to ads.

* Naturally, Google Safe Browsing isn't going to block ads from a Google service.

Google Safe Browsing also allows me to configure a lot of threats to IoT devices (security cameras, TV's, etc.) that don't have any configurable security beyond setting up strong passwords. It would be very useful for anyone with kids at home, as it can be configured to filter/block many categories of internet trash.

Just got my first video load failure. Hit refresh a few times and it loaded, but I presume they are slowly going to try to make our lives harder. At the end of the day they will get their way too. Some people will give in and just get YT premium, while some might just quit altogether. Both of those are a win for YT since the ones that quit are reducing the load on their servers. Kinda like how Netflix keeps raising prices or doing other anti customer moves, in the end they still come out ahead.
