I know that this is a gratuitous bump but I'm so psyched about the new season. Season one was so fantastic I've really been looking forward to this. The show moved very quickly compared to Walking Dead and the whole concept of a zombie messiah I thought was brilliant. Did I mention that I'm psyched?

watched it last night, was a pretty good return for the series. was a bit light on the miraculous escape of everyone from there target areas, except the one guy that has the surprise missile defense pop up.

some of the best points:
indianaing it in the refrigerator.
zombie chicks making out, until they remember they're zombies.
stripper pole stripping the arm.

odd thing was the plane full of the stations crew that had been dead the entire first season, decide now is the time to come to life?

My guess about the plane crew is that the heat from the nukes thawed them out just enough that they could move. What was unrealistic I thought was a) the fact that the interceptors took so long to deploy and b) that the incoming missiles detonated as a result of the impact. But obviously the point there was to create some drama for the arctic part of the story. Citizen Z hasn't really had to deal much with zombies so far so that might be fun. Although my guess is that they freeze up again soon.

I liked the teaser where Murphy said something like they already had a vaccine. I think he's referring to the fact that he was able to dose one of his kidnappers last season with his blood (??) and cause him to become his drone just like with the z's. I guess he's going to share that little bit of info with his old buddies.

Asylum, the rip off king does it again with the refrigerator. Best laugh of the night, well, almost.

Yes, most of the asylum junk on scifi channel is hardly worth being called "left the channel on while in the room" quality, but with z nation they have actually made something that goes beyond watchable to actually enjoyable.

So I'm half way through season 1, and I can confidently say this is better than The Walking Dead. Even the zombinado in the show was better than the tornado in Walking Dead. I think it might be the sense of progression. Arcs in TWD that take 1 or 2 seasons are done in one episode in Z Nation. The only thing I don't like about it is DJ Qualls in that Arctic station.

TWD has definitely become too . . . let's call it 'ponderous.' We're supposed to watch and re-watch every episode to extract every tiny morsel of meaning whereas ZNation is just fun.

What bothered you about the arctic station. Whatever it was it seems that many other people agreed since things have changed up somewhat in this season.

Spoiler:

Yay for that character I didn't like finally being gone. (Well, hopefully staying gone as well)

They were overdue to lose someone. Can't imagine that they'llkeep up the same pace as last season.

I just thought the hacker/radio guy thing was dumb. It made sense for the first episode, but most of the time they went back to Citizen Z I didnt find it funny or interesting, except for the cosmonaut episode. Even though it was a good episode, it was lame from the beginning because you know why things are happening.

I dunno, could be that I just dont like radio dj characters, except for maybe in The Warriors. And I dont like magical hackers. Putting them together is like the worst combo ever.

So, they picked up a new guy then?

Gotta give this lower budget show some cred for having a non-stop action episode. TWD would have milked it with two or three filler episodes to build up to it.

You do understand that the guy you're talking about is working at an NSA outpost, right? He's not a magic hacker. He's someone who was put there by a govt agency and charged with doing things like surveilling communications from across the globe.

Just saying NSA doesnt make it any more believable, or entertaining. The fact that they have that character means they need extremely contrived ways to communicate with him. Like a video camera on a road sign at a dirt crossroads. I could understand if there was a fully functioning NSA division with a bunch of people with specialized knowledge of all the systems needed to do whats being shown, but Citizen Z knows everything about everything. He even knew how to repair the air filtration system in the base. And if I remember correctly, the machine was physically broken, not just needing some minor maintenance. Maybe he consulted a service manual off screen, but whatever! Thats a magical hacker in my book.

OK. I see what you're saying. I guess nothing has happened so far to directly challenge my suspension of disbelief yet. Well, actually it has but that was this season not last and I don't want to explain further since it would be a spoiler for you if you're watching the first season still.

The part about the air filtration made sense to me at the time. I vaguely remember something about the CO2 filter needing to be changed or something along those lines. That didn't strike me as being something either very difficult or technical but since you just watched the episode, I'll defer to your observations.

Finally caught up. Whats interesting about this show is that none of the characters are safe, but in TWD most of the characters that die sorta overstay their welcome.
Its funny, but in the Netflix poster art Lt Hammond (Harold Perrineau) was on the cover, and he was arguably the most known actor because of Lost. I thought he was going to be around for awhile, and he dies in the first episode!
This show goes from campy to deadly serious pretty quickly...really keeps you on your toes.

As from DJ Qualls, every known (to me) actor in the show has died off. Perrineau (Lost), Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do), and Michael Welch (Joan of Arcadia, SG1). At least when characters die off they replace them with cool ones, like 10K and this latest new guy.

I think it was implied he broke it when he was hitting those golf balls. It might have been something simple to fix, but that could have been a scenario where you wonder how a facility like that can be maintained by one individual, but then he just fixes it like he was changing a light bulb. I understand its a campy show, but I just dont think that character and location are needed. Maybe from a production standpoint they can use him as filler.

In terms of DJ's usefulness, that has come across a couple of times by virtue of his being the link that lets characters find each other when they go down different story lines. Personally, I like the device. It seems more realistic (if I'm even allowed to use that term in this context) than having a series of fortuitous meetings.

He also serves the purpose of being able to widely disseminate information as he does this season - as you'll see pretty soon if you decide to try to catch up to the network broadcasts.

So yeah, it's a plot device but I don't find it objectionable and I sort of like the different perspective. I also sort of like the character and I suppose by implication, the actor- as strange as that probably sounds.

Plus it's a play on the "NSA is everywhere" thing, so it adds to the satirical fun.
Things like the Facebook stalking in one of the early episodes for example as well.

I do find the actor really annoying though, since he was a really annoying person on Scrubs as well.

Caught up on the last 2 episodes last night. First one was really good. Sound effects great, it felt like they were in the middle of a crazy mass shootout the entire time.

And the way they handled the death was amazingly good for them. Just about every character had a near death experience throughout the show, then at the end one just ends with a bullet in the head when it looked like he was going through the same thing.

The madmax vibe was rather strong in the second showing. Only thing I thought of though was that they were losing people so quick as soon as they met up, how the he'll did they manage to survive as long as they did to get to that point.

I've never seen a bunch of people have a harder time getting to California. Now they're on to Minneapolis?

As long as they don't kill off the 10k Sniper kid in Z nation and Daryl in TWD I can continue watching. They all give off the Legolas badass loner character that make them my favorite to root for.

I dunno...I feel any character in Z Nation can be killed off at any time, but not in TWD. Rick, Glen, Carol and Daryl are too popular to kill off. It would suck if 10K died, but they can bring someone in just as cool. I was kinda hoping the Asian chick he had the shooting contest with would come back, and maybe replace the existing Asian chick. That character went in the toilet fast.

Was thinking 10k was about to get a girlfriend, till she ended up with a hole in the head.
