I know this was posted before but I just got all my parts from fedex (yay!) and I have a couple questions. Will the zalman fit in one of these boards, it looks like it will be coming really close to the video card (EVGA 6800GT) and the ram. More so I got the retail 3500+ because I couldn't find OEM, and putting the Zalman on voids my warranty. So should I try it with the retail heatsink first, and if so is it easy to replace fans afterwards? This is only my second custom build so I am a bit new to this. Thanks.

The Zalman should be fine with the EVGA if the back of that card doesn't stick out towards the CPU socket. Also, if you get the Zalman, you may have to take the backplate of ur current mobo

What about the warranty...should I make sure that my CPU works first using the retail heatsink?

the retailer will never be able to tell which heatsink you used, also i have a K8n neo platinum
and it has massive space - both the Zalman CNPS 7000 and even the (huger) Thermalright XP120 fit nicely

regarding the backplate, the once shipped with the motherboard/cpu will work well with the zalman, just screw in those gold nipples, place the heatsink (and thermal compound - if using the white stuff no need to spread it around, just put a dollop in the center of the cpu - it will spread on its own with the pressure)
Then after the heatsink is in place screw it into the nipples - make sure you dont njick a fan blade when doing this, also make sure it is tight since it will loosen a little on its own. In fact if the zalman heatsink is new i'd reccomend opening up your pc in a few months and checking that the screws are on tight

Hello,
I have the K8N Neo2 MLB and have just been looking at it for a Zalman install. The backplate does not work becasue it comes thru the MLB and the screw holes don't fit the Zalman gold Nipples. I ordered Corsair RAM which I know is big and it should be very close on the fit with Zalman. I don't have my processor yet, not till next week and if it lifts the Zalman just a bit I should be fine. I see no issue with my BFG ultra OC which has room to spare. I wish the backplate on the Zalman was a better heatsink but I guess the Zalman should take care of that. I will list again when I'm done.

Unless something changed with the standard 939 backplate compared to the 754 then it won't work fine. The golden screws are too high up and the heatsink won't have the proper pressure on the cpu. You can use the standard backplate but you'll have to use the long screws that come with the mobo. The problem with this is theres no indication of how far you've screwed them in so care needs to be taken (my heatsink is currently installed this way).... I think I rmaed the zalman backplate with my chaintech znf3-150 :Q

Hum...I'm glad I'm not the ONLY person worried about the SIZES of heatsinks...My Radeon 9800 Pro with the Arctic VGA cooler just made the gap between the heatsink and the videocard a lot smaller, which could pose problems with bigger heatsinks.

For this reason, along with 'wanting my new heatsink to be quieter', I've ended up purchasing the Arctic Cooling Silencer TC; I haven't recieved it yet, but I'm PRAYING that I won't have any installation problems and the heatsink won't be interfering with other hardware. I couldn't find any ENGLISH reviews on this heatsink, and it probably won't cool 'as much' as the zalman, but if it does a better job than the stock heatsink and is quieter, then I'm happy =D

Hi folks, just new to the forum. I've just ordered a

[MSI K8N Neo2],[AMD 3500+],[Corsair 3200xl].[Antec Sonata],[Powercolor 9800Pro]. kit.

I haven't yet ordered the cpu cooler, but was about to get a Zalman 7000 AlCu. does the cooler fit?

Also ordered 3[120Gb WD Caviars] intention to RAID 0 two of them. Any tips would be really great,. This is my first build so I'm pretty nervous.

Cheers

but i'm talking about the 7700..the one with the 120mm fan..

do you know anything about that?

it looks from the pictures that even with a 92mm fan it's 3mm to the video card...

so it probaly won't fit, right?

The XP-120 does NOT fit the MSI Neo2 Platinum. It does fit the Neo Platinum, just not the Neo2 Platinum, which is the better model. So I doubt that the Zalman 120mm 7700AlCu will fit. Sorry.

I use an XP-90 on mine, which fits the Neo2 Platinum, and is about a third the weight of the big Zalman. Better cooling, too, but the Zalman is quieter. If you really want a Zalman, the 7000AlCu fits your board and is just as good as its bigger brother.
