Blech.

Hmmm- Puts on thinking cap- Aluminum touches copper result, electrolic reaction- Solution, shut up and let Zalman, gold plate the Heatpipe. The rest is anodized aluminum.

The copper heat pipe will leak if left touching aluminium long enough.

Yup it beyond you

Then I guess millions of Shuttle pc's are about to spring a major leak. Silly me.

My point is they don't HAVE to be gold plated, zalman does so for no otherreason than aesthetics. It's butt ugly.

No go be rude somewhere else until you've earned your wings here, junior turd.

Sorry, if you feel I was rude, and actually I don't say much just the see my posts numbers goin up up up, but it is not dipped in gold it is yellow anodized. Only the heat pipe is gold.

BTW did you know that those pipes were invented here is Albuqerque? I saw the prototype, about three feet long and 2 inchs around. That was around 1983.

I am going to get 1 because you don't like it. LOL

No I want 1 but would like another color also say, purple to match the PNY card.

My order arrived the day after I placed the order and everything is here. The only screwup so far with SVC was that $20 Antec case scenario.

I haven't setup the GPU cooler yet, but it's heavy like a mofo and looks much more copper or bronze than gold. Comes with a screwdriver! 1300 square centimeter of surface area. I can't bring my computer down till after work, so I'll do it tonight and will let ya'll know how the install was for me.

To backup what DongTran said, I picked one up at the Fremont Fry's for 29.99 also. Save on shipping.

Just installed it. It's a very involved installation. If you're uncomfortable setting a regular HSF, then banish all thought of trying this. The ZM80A-HP is comprised of FIVE sections two of which have a pair of moving parts. But, really, what do you expect?

The noise level has definitly dropped. In my case, the noise level increased because I also added a Zalman 92MM fan that's running way too fast right now. I'll have to experiment some with different fans and find the last sources of sound eminating from my computer, but at least I can eliminate noise from the vid card from the mix.

Like these other guys said, you can pick one of these up at Fry's for the same price, but SVC shipping is cheap if you choose UPS and, even for me living in Northern California, it's probably equivalent to the gas I'd spend getting to Fry's and back anyway and is even better for those living outside of Fry's range.

Gonna fire up BF1942 for an hour or so and stress this baby out.

SVC's just down in San Jose just off 280, if you're local just drop by. They just opened up a retail store- the prices are great but the collective misery of those working there shines through.

Unless you LIVE in San Jose, going to San Jose isn't worth it.

This one's easy. As far as cooling goes Aluminum = Good Copper = Better GOLD = Even better. I believe platinum would be next on the list, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. Who would've ever guessed cooling is all about the BLING-BLING!

Platinum only costs maybe twice what gold does. As to its thermal properties: It's almost purely cosmetic. A nice property of gold is that it is one of the most malleable metals known to man. If you try hard enough, you can stretch a pound or two into a many-mile long thread. This is why "Gold Leaf" and "Gold plating" is so cheap, compared to the actual metal(which trades around $350 an ounce). The amount of metal in the sink is trivial. On conductivity: I believe that while gold is a superconductor of electricity, it isn't much better than copper on heat conductivity.

Thermal conductivity, according to webelements.com, in [/W m-1 K-1]:
430 silver
400 copper
320 gold
235 aluminum
72 platinum

Incase you doubt these figures, more from tweaktown:
Metal Thermal Conductivity (W/cm-K)

Diamond 6.299
Silver 4.173
Copper 3.837
Aluminium 2.165
Gold 2.913

Quite true. But that is not gold on the sinks. Nor is it gold paint. It is aluminum that was just anodized. Why they chose gold as a color, I do not know. A purple or red anodize would look good.

Definately beats green though

This Zalman is a wierd one. I read reviews saying it is good for overclocking, also reviews saying it is bad for overclocking. Which one to believe?
