I recenetly bought a Zalman CNPS7000A-CU, and i noticed on their website it says to keep the fan speed at "Normal" when overclocking. Why is that? Should i really do that? Can i turn it back to high after i'm done overclocking?

I think the controller for the Zalman fan has 2 modes - 'Quiet' and 'Normal' - Ie Quiet = low and Normal = high

So what they're saying is use the 'normal' fan mode if you plan on overclocking since the components will need the extra air pull. If you don't plan on doing overclocking, then you would stick with quiet mode.

I'm using the Zalman on my 3500 and I didn't even bother installing that fanmate.I prefer it to run at it's highest efficiency and I'm not even overclocking.Cooler=Stability=Reliablity=Longevity!

Unfortunately my temps aren't any better that before (with stock A64 heatsink), so i'll probably end up selling it, which sucks because it's kind of a pain in the arse to install. Temps could be reading wrong, since they always have in my lifetime, but i do have the latest bios.

So just keep it on high all the time even when overclocking?

I am using the zalman cooler too, but I have the al-cu one. I believe yours is the all copper. I was wondering how much better it is. I have no complaints my 3000 90nm athlon 64 chip runs cooler than my last 3 rigs thats 1.4athlon, xp1700+, 2500 barton the first 2 ran about 110-130 the barton ran or runs I should say 105-115 all in farienhiet ok. I too don't bother to use the fanmate acording to my mobo the chip is running about 95 right now motherboard monitor says even lower I don't know how acurate it is

Before you sell the Zalman try reinstalling it to make sure you didn't slip up somewhere. I've got the AlCu version on a P4 3.2 @ 3.6 and it keeps it at 57C at full load on Quiet mode.

What are your load and idle temps?

On my system I have my CPU and exhaust (back fan) controlled via SpeedFan. If the CPU temp reaches 55c the fan speeds up, if the case temp reaches 35c same thing. I'm sure you could do the same with you DFI board.

Well when i bootup, my temp is 32C, but after about an hour of computer use it idles at 38-39c, which is what my temps were before, and max load is 48C, with my system at stock speeds. Fan is as high up as it goes.

I don't know how much better this one is than the other version, i'm not the guy to ask since my temps are always higher than they should be for some reason, no matter what kind of system i have
