Just got my retail A64 3000 939. I kinda wanted to put xp-120 because I hear that's the best for oc and all. However, my local store had Zalman 7000 AlCu so I just picked it up possibly installing it tonight.
I don't know if I should wait and buy the XP-120 or would Zalman good enough. I see XP-120 results in few degrees cooler than Zalman...plus little noisier... sorry if this has been beat to death.

the general consesus is that:

xp-120 is good the best there is, esp. for OC
zalman is for quiet n cool, not designed for OC
stock, try to avoid at all cost =) but most of the times it'll keep your cpu from frying while not generating a huge amount of noise.

the zalman is just fine for OCing, just not as good as the XP 120

Zalman 7000 is fine for overclocking.DOn't know where you whipped that info info from pal.The temp. difference between the XP-120 & Zalman 7000 AlCu is negligable, the size/fit is the main concern as the XP 120 doesn't fit all motherboards.
Any overclocking that the Zalman can't handle would be a need for some serious quality watercooling indeed.
The price in noise production was the deciding factor for me.I don't want my computer to sound like a cheap vacuum cleaner. And IMHO I prefer the appearance of the Zalman, but that's not a deciding factor.

with a 120 mm, the XP-120 is nearly silent as well. for me, i got a nice drop in temps over the 7000CU

Seems like Panaflo has the most flow and most quiet combination. I see Silverstone 120 with speed control that may be better, but it doesn't give exact decibal at specific cfm. Also, with Silverstone, you have to grind out the corners like Global fan. I think I'll go with the Panaflo FBA12G12M. I only see this at Nexfan.com for $9.99. If you know anywhere else let me know.
I wonder what the spec is for my Antec Sonata's rear 120mm fan. Maybe I'd consider replacing it with Panaflo.

That Panaflo you listed is a 38mm thick fan!Caution,as this may not fit the space provided for front intake or other areas.Normal thickness would be 25mm.

I replaced my rear Antec SLK 3700BQE case fan with a Antec Pro dual BB and also added one of those to the front of my case. They are quiet (29db) and push 79cfm

XP120 can beat every air cooled competitor in noise and cooling performance if the correct fan is choosen. How much did you spend on the Zalman? An XP 120 with nice fan would run you 60$ probably. If you got the zalman for like 30$, i would just be happy with the zalman since you just saved 30$ and are getting much better than 1/2 the performance (noise and cooling) of the XP120. If you are stickler for noise and temperature readings, then you might be able to justify the 30$ difference...

The XP-120 or XP-90 are great choices. I have just heard of some having problems getting the Xp-120 to fit in.
