I know they aren't critical for memory cooling, but will a drop of super glue be detrimental to the RAM module?

I'm not gonna buy a tube of thermal adhesive just for one ramsink.

Heh heh...

Actually, I'm obsessed with silent performance.

Tried.dat, no worky. The tape adhesive doesn't have the same 'stick' to it that it did when I first put the ramsinks on a few weeks ago.

Probably not. You can always buy another set of ram sinks if you're worried . . .

are you suggesting that you're going to use superglue as an adhesive for the ramsink to the ram chip?

don't you have any extra arctic silver lying around?

Never use AS5 on RAMS!!!! Use Ceramique, or the general silicone crap.

I'm contemplating it provided one tiny drop won't destroy the RAM module.[/quote]

Yes, but AS 5 is not an adhesive.

I don't think that superglue would be a good idea. I don't know if it would hurt it or not, but it would make the ramsink pretty much useless.

Super-glue wouldn't transfer the heat from the ram to the sink, or atleast enough to make it worth your while. It might even hold heat in the chip..?

I would just leave it off, or get a new one.

Superglue will work in a pinch, but I wouldn't exactly call it temporary.

http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_thermal_adhesive.htm - It's worth it, you'll find other uses for it as well.

There was a recent thread about it, do a search and you should be able to find it.

You can also buy a completely new set of Zalmans from jab-tech.
http://www.jab-tech.com/Zalman-ZM-RHS1-Ramsinks-pr-2682.html

Or just some thermal tape:

BTW, yes, I found my ramsinks, but I'm going to be using them for other projects.

A long time ago I took a K6 heatsink and used super glue on each corner of the chip.
I mounted it on a Geforce2 using AS3 over the rest of the chip.

It worked fine even with the weight of the heatsink.
I wasn't willing to spend any money on that card, so it was worth a shot.
Never had an issue.

Yeah, I'm just gonna leave it naked if I can't scare up a replacement.

That's cool.

I'm not gonna spend anymore than a few bucks trying to fix this. One naked module isn't the end of the world.

Why would you even consider super glue? Isn't that permanent? What if some day you want to remove the sink? You may break the ram plastic body then.

This is another advantage of the Silencer. No matter how many times you install and remove the cooler, you can always install it like the first time (no adhesive involved).

Clean the memory chip with alcohol to remove any residue from the old thermal tape. Try to find a new thermal tape and use it if you can (after cleaning the sink with alcohol as well).

It's not permanent. There's a product called 'Super Glue Remover' that works like a champ.

If you decide to do this, use the glue only at the corners. Use thermal compound in the middle. I doubt that the glue would provide good thermal conductivity.

Who told you this?

I got AS5 on the RAM on my 9800XT and it's fine. contrary to popular belife, AS5 is actually NOT conductive.
Proof
BUT I'd still be REALLY REALLY careful with it around the RAM.

@OP
Just get some Thermal Tape from BestByte.
Link (it's the third one from the bottom, its $2. Or you can get the $14 roll (2nd from bottom) if you want to have alot of that stuff )

I dont understand why you cant just stick the ramsink back on? I've reused the zalman ramsinks from my old card to my current one, and it not only does it hold well with the original thermal tape, it also cools as good as new.
