Im looking for an aftermarket cooler to OC my 7900gt + the little conductive pen volt mod.

i decided to buy either the zalman VF900 or the 700. the 900 is 20$ more but also does not obliterate 2 slots....and if i ever did go sli it would still be functionable.

but i dont rightly care for much of that... temp wise / performance from my card.....

900 worth 20 more?

no, it's not worth 20 dollars more right now. wait a few months and the prices will drop to the 25-35 range. then it's gonna be worth it.

Nicely done.

I mean if you are replacing a 700 then not worth it. If you are getting a GPU cooler might as well go with a 900. I mean you are puttting it on a 7900gt. . . not the cheapest card out there.

yeah atleast i know it was not a bad decision. the stock cooler just isnt cutting it..and summer is right around the corner. might aswell go with the best i can. Zalman are quiet...and efficient and no one who has owned one that I have met ever said anything else about em.

atleast i wont have that remorse later like.. ugh for 20$ i could've got that better one... syndrome.

I love it when kids with no income who smooch off of Mommy and Daddy post things like-

Way too funny!

Of course its not worth it if you can`t afford it to begin with!

IIRC the TR V-1 Ultra performs better than the VF900.

The amount it outperforms it depends on which website you read the review on. Eitherway that thing is really big. I dont want to give up multiple slots for my cooling solution...on both sides...since i have PCIE x1 above my card that holds a TV tuner and PCI below. The Zalman is more silent...and also more suitable for my purpose. If it took only 1 PCI slot beneath the card then thats fine. Because I have a 3 slot SLI board... where you use 1 slot for PCIe16x or 2 slots other slots for pcie8x, so it really wouldnt be taking up a second slot at all. Also I need something that blows air over the ramsinks on the gpu side of the videocard

also looking here

the accelero which scored alot better than the VF900 on legion hardware's website actually scores alot worse on this website. so you cant always trust what you read..and its probably different for every installer...one uses arctic silver... one gets a good contact between the heatsink/gpu one guy's case is hotter than the other...its all relative.

I decided VF700 or VF900 and i dont think ill be super pissed off with a Zalman VF900 vs a stock cooler LoL.

I was making the decision between gettin the vf-700 for my 7900gt or spending the extra cash and getting the vf-900. I sprung for the 900 and I'm more than happy. I have it o/c'd but not volt modded yet, but i'm running 33 on idle and it only hits 46 on load, all this with the fan only running 1600rpm with the included fanmate. I'm more than happy with my purchase despite it being around 20 bucks more than the 700.

good to hear thanx! im going to run it at the stock settings (which are factory overclocked 550/1580) for 2 or 3 weeks while the arctic silver kicks in, then straight to 1.4vcore and 2.2mem and see what I can pull off.

major thing i hate tho is..15$ for a conductive pen!

The vf900 is good that it fits almost every video card, but it's not as good at cooling as it's hyped up to be. Granted, it's still at least as good as the vf700, which itself would blow away the stock 7900gt cooler, but I'd save the money and get the accelero or the vf700. I'm using a vf900 on my x1900xt, and no matter how I mount and remount it I'm still getting 86C load temps, even after I gave it 2 free slots underneath to breathe more air. From reading user comments of people who bought a vf900, it seems like the accelero would give you slightly better cooling and cost $20 less.

the problem is, the cliche dead spot for airflow near the spot where all the cards sit. im going to spend the 10$ to get an exhaust fan down there just so its not recycling warm air. I think the style of cooling the VF900 offers would really benefit from this. I do have alot of room in my case anyway.

Though thanks for sharing your results. Ill report back with mine once the unit arrives.
