Zappos is having an October Clearance Sale right now. Many shoes are marked down to very low price + free shipping. They have 365-Day Return Policy. Best the return policy ever.

They are number 15 on Inc Magazine's newly published list of the nation's fastest growing privately held companies.

If you are looking for cheap shoes, go to Payless Shoes. They have unbelievable prices, they currently offer "buy one pair get second pair for 1/2 off", and there are some 15% off and 20% off coupons floating around at virtually every coupon website. They will ship the shoes free to the nearest Payless store for you to pick-up (4,500 stores across the US), or will ship direct to you for a fee.

I cannot comment on the quality of their shoes (yet). They have an unconditional return/exchange guarantee - so there is no risk. I am going to order 4 pairs of dress/business shoes. The total cost (after coupons, etc) comes to around $13.80 per pair. Hard beat that deal.

gedman: The shoes sold by payless are CHEAP shoes both in price and quality, the shoes sold by zappos are not cheap in price or quality. It would be like finding a deal on an Acura and posting a thread and someone coming along and mentioning how much cheaper a Hyundai is. You are not compairing apples to apples here, different classes of product.

"You can return unworn shoes for up to 365 days from the purchase date. Shoes must be in the condition you received them and in the original box."

Well, I guess you have 1 year to decide if you want to wear it or not after you buy it

"Return shipping is absolutely free. We will provide you with a pre-paid UPS label to return the shoes to us."

I guess the good thing is that you can try out the shoe you buy ... if it does't fit, you can ship it back to them for free... the thing is... i wonder if you can get refund for the shipping you pay...???

They pay for shipping... both ways. Free shipping to your house, free shipping from your house with the "pre-paid UPS label"

What he said... Payless is what it is--a step above disposable shoes. Not meant as a slam, but it's obvious that the Payless shoes are 2-3 grades lower in terms of construction and durability.

I just bought some timberland shoes from zappos. 99.95. I initially bought 11 wide , but they were a little loose. I returned them and bought 11 regular and they fit nice. They are super comfortable, i bought these so I wouldn't wear our my 140 dollar kenneth coles. (obviously comfort has nothing to do with zappos, but they did upgrade my free standard shipping to free overnight both times and return shipping was free also)

I wear out soles on business shoes pretty fast (I do a lot of walking in them). It is $30+ to get shoes resoled properly. So, I can pay under $14 per pair from Payless (after coupons, etc) and simply throw them away when the soles wear out after 6 months --- or I can spend $100+ for Johnston & Murphys and pay $30 to resole them every 6 months. The TCO (total cost of ownership) is much lower by going with the Payless shoes in my case.

Besides, my post did not compare Payless to Zappos. That is why my original post started off by saying:
"If you are looking for cheap shoes..."

i'm looking for nice pair of dress shoes, but don't want to spend more than $60-70, the lower the better as i don't wear them much at all. the pair of Doc Martins don't go well with the suit i have. I only wear it couple time a year, only for special occasions. any suggestions?

edit: i'm thinking of buying these, they got good reviews...

Actually you'd be surprised, some of the shoes there are exact same quality as regular department store shoes but rebadged, I have a pair labeled State Street I got for roughly $25 that I saw in a Sears store for $80 under a popular brand name (GBX I think) same stitching, same color leather, slightly different insole (just color and logo really), but the tread and shoe looked identical, and I was wearing them at the time so I laughed pretty hard when I saw it, actually took it off to compare them side by side heh, definitely the same.

So for some of there shoes it's like comparing a Toyota to a Lexus.. different packaging same shoe. Not all of their shoes are like this though (with the prices they have it's obvious) so of course I don't buy all my shoes at Payless or anything like that, but you can get really good shoes there and of course really bad ones (that's why they allow you to try them on first ;P ), basically just saying don't judge a book by it's cover.

oh and edit hehe: Zappos.com rocks!

Zappos is pretty good, but I've found better prices on shoebuy.com. They still have free shipping/return shipping. Plus, if you look around, you can usually find 15-20% coupon codes floating around. Was pleasantly suprised after I placed an order with the 20% code and then on the checkout page got a little note saying that they had tacked on another 10% off because this was my first order.

I've used zappos before and they're awesome. Also the comments people leave on the shoes are helpful in finding the right shoe and size for that shoe too. Great site and excellent customer service. They upgrade your shipping sometimes for free
