Zaurus owners: How bad are these things on the battery? I've heard that you only get about an hour with an mp3.

Battery life is pretty poor. I use mine for reading e-books on my commute. And yeah, I get about an hour out of it.

I haven't done it yet... but flashing it with the OpenZaurus ROM gives you more control. Especially over power settings, i.e. backlight strength, battery vs AC power, etc.

If your primary interest in it is for playing mp3's, then I'd go another route, and get a dedicated (small) mp3 player. However, this is one of the coolest tools (yes, tools) that I've used. While I certainly wouldn't want to code a large app on it, it's great for unit testing, cleaning up Java classes, catching up on documentation, etc. (and yes, even watching graphy using the movie player.)

If I didn't already have one, I'd jump all over this deal.

I love mine. Buy a wireless CF card and you're set. I'm trying to figure out whats better, sitting outside in the shade with my laptop or my handheld...

I aggree 100% with cycloscott this isn't the thing for mp3s. However if you are looking for an extremely mobile linux box, or are a technically minded (eg: you really want to poke at your PDA, and not just for minesweeper) this is definately a good toy for you. I missed the last one, and am dying to get in on this one!

Doomer, I've been using OpieReader (a.k.a. QTReader). Works with PalmDoc format, Plucker, plain text (duh), HTML, etc. No complaints from me at all.

You must have been in Australia for too long, otherwise you'd know that T68i is free at Amazon...
