I don't see your point. Trillian is open and free. So this jabber client has no advantages over trillian, unless its endorsed by aol.

Yes, Trillian is free (not open to my knowledge though). But AOL-protocols are not. And that is what causes these problems. Jabbers protocols are free and open, so there are no problems. Jabber is not just an IM-client, it's an IM-protocol as well.
Zealot?? For your information, I'm running Trillian myself, and I love it! But I acknowledge that it is vulnerable to things like this AOL-fiasco. With Jabber there is no such problems.
People want an IM-protocol that is interoperable and free as e-mail is. That is not the case right now, there are several systems that don't communicate with one another. With Jabber, that is not a problem. It is open and free, just like email is.
