I bought HP ZE 4101 and tried to install RedHat 8.0 but have been facing problemes right from the beginning.
DVD rom in laptop does not read the burned copy of RH 8.0 and Kernel goes panic. I tried >linux mediacheck as well as linux idebus=66 but the same result.
Inserted pogolinux CD and installation starts but does not give me an option to install LILO of GRUB and just over writes mbr to boot only Linux and XP won't come on (fdisk /mbr won't resore the MBR either).
After installtion is completes, eventhough I selected KDE as my default start up, it only starts non GUI. Also during installtion, display type and graphic card (ATI Radeon mobility) is not detected. Moreover, during installation instruction are displayed in the center and approximately 1.5" from each side of the screen was black.
I created Linux Ext3 partion using PartitionMagic 8.0 and installed RedHad / (root) above cylinder 1024 and booted fine but non GUI and not dual boot.
Does any one has any success in installing dual boot on ZE 4101 with XP(home edition) and Linux?
Please let me know step by step instruction or any link.
