ze1201 conexant audio/modem troubles

I noticed lately while listening to mp3s or watching a divx on the laptop that the audio crackles and pops way too often, more frequently during cpu usage. I downloaded the latest drivers from hp website for the ze1201 laptop conexant audio/modem, but they actually seemed to have messed up the modem, becuase it drops internet connection every few minutes. The modem used to work fine before, but I am not sure about the audio. Is there better driver solutions for this laptop? Or am I stuck with propriatary junk? Thanks.

What OS are you running? You maybe experiencing some problems with IRQ's but without more info it's hard to say. Since it's a connexant modem try any of the following init strings (+MS=V90, or +MS=K56,0 or +MS=V34) the V34 is only a last resort since that will put you back on the old V34 standard... aka slow preV90 standard....

That might help stabalize connection. With regards to the soundcard, try multiple driver builds. Newest aren't always best. Also, the crackling and the hiss maybe caused by the speakers in use (need more info to determine... u try headphones and was it still there?). Basically, the more you write the better the chances that someone here can help.

Sorry, I am running XP Home Edition, and that crackling stuff happens when I put headphones on. I don't remember it happening this bad before. It might be the drivers I got. As for the inti strings I assume you want me to find the modem intialization file? Where would I find multiple driver builds, I really can't search around due to this awesome modem dropping connections. Thanks

Ok well I system restored to earlier date, and the sound does not pop anymore. The modem driver was not functioning so I updated it with the latest drivers. I think everything is working fine now. There is only a background hiss for the sound, but I think thats normal. If there are better audio drivers let me know. Merci.
