I think they're subtly nudging us into defeating enemies without the conventional hack and slash by using your skills instead. (You'll notice there are always metal crates in moblin camps you can use with your magnet, along with things you can time freeze) Another tactic is to drop a bomb parallel to a red explosive barrel and use a leaf weapon to blow it towards it. Boom! Also in a pinch I'll drop a bomb when I'm running away from something and I detonate it as they chase me. Sometimes if they're right on my tail I'll throw the bomb forwards instead, then dash ahead of it and detonate the bomb under the pursuer as soon as I'm clear of the blast zone.

Long story short, a lot of situations can be cleared without whipping out your sword.
The problem I am having is the control is clunky as shit in this game and there is too much stuff to try and control so it makes the battles more about fighting the controls than the enemies. I just defeated the divine beast in the desert and I felt like I was battling the controls more than the boss because of the way you have to fight him.

Are you using the Pro Controller or Joycons? It's very difficult for me to play at the same level on the Joycons than with the Pro Controller. The sticks on the Joycons make it more difficult for me to aim and do other things because of the arrangement of everything. The Pro Controller just makes everything easier to do. It's the main reason why I rarely play Zelda in portable mode.

I've done both quite a bit and it's better on the pro for sure but still clunky. Just like how the D pad does different stuff based on what you have in your hands and stuff, and having to press a button to put the weapon away so you can block with the shield. Then it seems like more than 1/2 the time pressing ZL to lock onto an enemy doesn't work and instead since I'm running away trying to lock on, it will turn the camera 180 degrees. Just clunky as shit all around.

The controls can be clunky if you get in a tight spot and the action gets away from you. I've had problems switching weapons or getting just the shield. However, I can dominate most battles if I have to do it twice. Only Thunder Blight gave me a problem gave me an issue. The other ones seemed way too easy.

Yep that is the one I was referring to in the divine beast in the desert. I knew exactly how to beat it and the boss wasn't even hard, it was just the 2nd half part fighting the damn controls for the most part. I felt it was basically luck when I did beat him because of the locations he moved to not being all out of vision so I could track him easier. The one divine beast in the lava mountains I didn't even have to face a second time I just beat him the first time I encountered him.

What also seems odd is that the divine beast puzzles are easier to figure out than some of the shrines.

They are crazy expensive now if you want to buy one and not try to hunt one down. On Amazon, basically any Legend of Zelda amiibo are double the price or more.
They sure have! I anticipated this, so I bought a few of the ones I REALLY wanted the day I found out what they did, which was like 2 weeks ago. I couldn't justify paying hundreds of dollars for in-game items at the time, so I bought the Action Replay Amiibo thing to spoof the others. But, for the legit ones, I got BOTW Rider Link (horse saddle) from Target for retail price, Smash Link (Epona) from ebay for $20, and then I surprisingly found Wolf Link at Gamestop for $15.

But with how much time I think I'll be investing in this game after playing it the past few weeks, I've decided to try to get all of them. Just to add some fun to future playthroughs.

WTF do Amiibo's do in game? This thread is the first I've heard of these.
You can use them once a day. You get drops in game and every one gives you something different, arrows, rupees, meat, fish, parts. Then they also drop chests with shields or weapons or other stuff. Some of it you can only get from amiibo like classic Link weapons or outfits or Ganon's sword and even Epona. You aren't guaranteed to get anything at all, random drops. But I've gotten some pretty good weapons and shields from it in addition to the normal goodies.

So basically a pay-to-win figure. I think I'll pass...

I've never been into Amiibos (or Infinity or Skylanders) at all. No interest what-so-ever. I just bought Ganondorf from eBay for 2.5x retail, and I suddenly feel compelled to catch 'em all.

Meh, mostly. Some do more than others. Some figures give you armor that resembles the previous games counterparts. But they are just chances to obtain them. The Ganondorf one I just ordered makes Twilight Princess (for Wii U) more difficult, and in Breath of the Wild has a small chance of dropping Ganon's Sword of the 6 Sages.

My 16 year old self is disappointed in my current self. He would have already owned all of these.

You get that one in game after meeting certain criteria. I happened to stumble on a 8 bit link amiibo for $12 and bought it though.

However I really want the OoT armor and to my knowledge there is no in game way to get it :-/

You get a green tunic after completing 120 shrines that is a specially branded BoTW variant just for this game. The "Hero's Tunic" and hat/boots actually change link's hair to resemble that of Zelda 1 manual Link. It's pretty good.

Yea it is but not as bad since weapons and arrows break so damn fast anyways and you aren't guaranteed to get anything either.
Speaking of weapons breaking, I think I caught one of the "tips" yesterday on the load screen where it said that when sleeping at an inn, not only do you replenish all of your health and resources, but it also replenishes your weapons back to being "new"? Is this true? If so I had no clue about it.

Oh really? I haven't heard of that.

Anyone got the alternate ending yet? I'm guessing you get it by rushing to face ganon with only 3 hearts at the start of the game.
