I'm having a really hard time getting into the BIOS on the Hero, it works like every 10th reboot, anyone have any tips? Been spamming the F1 and Del buttons so far.
*edit*
I misunderstood

Can try to disable Asus bootscreen and set longer postcode screen from 5sec to 7sec

Aha, after tons of tries and then removing the power cable and disconnecting USB sticks I finally got it working and reflashed. Crossing fingers one of those things is the trick if this happens again. Enabled the bootscreen and longer wait period for now.

BTW tried to OC my RAM, and while setting my 6000 RAM to 6200 worked just fine (loaded DOCP first), it changed the command rate to 2 according to ZenTimings. And I can't find that setting anywhere in the BIOS (WTF?). So now I'm back to 6000 with slightly tweaked primary timings, will try more tomorrow.

I always disable fast-boot on the first POST for just this reason.... I'd rather wait a few seconds on startup then deal with it being a pain to get into setup.

I have a question regarding monitoring software
Is everyone in here using HWinf64?

I am using CPUID's HWmonitor v1.46, and while it doesn't officially support Zen 4 yet, it still reports a lot of parameters like CPU package temp, CPU package power, frequencies, etc
Based on what I saw, it is reporting accurate numbers.
For example, the values reported on CPU power consumption are spot on (145W max for a 7700X, 185W max for a 7900X)
Frequency is also spot on, 5.5+ GHz max for 7700X, 5.7+ GHz max for 7900X

What is puzzling me are the temps.
HWmonitor doesn't report CCD temps or core temps yet, only CPU package temps.
However, the temps for CPU package are rarely reaching 95 °C.
Only max wattage CPU stress are getting them there.

What we are reading on the web is that the CPU practically immediately reaches 95 °C, even with giant AIOs away from the GPU.
I am using air coolers on both systems. Heck, in the 7700X I used a wraith AM3+ to boot the system, and it still managed to run and install things without exceeding 70 °C.

I am bringing the point because I remember that during the launch of Zen, the "X" CPUs (1700X, 1800X) were reporting temps 20 °C higher.
Could something similar be happening now? An offset in temps reported?

So i have finally 100% dialed in my memory settings... In the end i landed on 6200MT/s @ 28-36-36-28 with tweaked subs and FCLK at 2200mhz. (y)

There is alot of stuff going on in screenshot below, so i will break it up alittle
View attachment 69136

Memory performance benchmarks:
View attachment 69137

Full screenshot including the following completed stresstests:
  • TestMem5 with 1usmus CFG = 25 cycles -> 1 hour and 57mins
  • Karhu ram test = 4750% -> 2 hours
  • Dram calculator testmem = 400 minutes = almost 7 hours
  • And lastly almost 2.5hours y-cruncher with all tests enabled, updated version with latest AVX512 support for Zen4 (hardest benchmark there is for Zen4)
View attachment 69138

Time to update to newest beta bios and do it all again
So some new numbers with this newer higher performing bios
Memory settings are still the same as above:

Quick and easy stability test since its the same timings:
  • 25 cycles Testmem5 1usmus cfg
  • 3 cycles y-cruncher with all avx512 stresstests enabled

Some new performance numbers i benched last night

404 average cpu fps in SotTR @1080p lowest

Managed to get under 45sec in y-cruncher 2.5B

Full suite of Geekbenches:

And lastly we have a new 3dmark speedway run:

If you want faster speed; what till the Ryzen 7050X 3D is release! That is my next opportunity when I am looking to buying the original 7050X at a discount if I do not find my price for it on the holiday season!

You mean the 7950X3D? It's still not entirely clear if that part actually exists. But if you can afford to wait, you may as well. I'm holding out til they accounce the Raphael-X lineup. If they announce it.

Note that if you can boot into windows, you can open a terminal as administrator and run shutdown /r /fw /t 0 and it should reboot into the BIOS.

EDIT: This should work with the windows setup tool (boot from USB stick and hit shift+F10) as well.

Gigabyte also used to offer a utility with some of their motherboards which automated this from within Windows.

I actually tried this several times with no effect, but it might have been the extra devices messing up the ability to enter BIOS. Will definitely try it next time, made a shortcut to the command on my desktop.

New bios = new memory speed
getting 6400MT/s dialed.. Little worse latency tho, dunno why, but "realworld performance" is better

Damn, 3200 UCLK is nice. That RAM looks expensive though. I might use those timings and aim for something in between them and mine.

Do you know anything about the effect of 1T vs 2T? The one time I tried adjusting UCLK to 3100 I saw the ram go down to 2T and I could find absolutely no setting for it in the BIOS so I just went back to 3000 and 1T.

I tried the 0802 BIOS, which resulted in existing RAM OC settings failing spectacularly, but after much trial and error and rolling back to 0801 I managed to dial down timings quite a bit more (I'm far from finished though).

I can see why EXPO is needed because several timings could be more than halved, and some pretty close to it.

I might have screwed something up on my side, but if you're not in a hurry, I'd recommend skipping 0802 (its a beta anyway).

Hmm this could be good memory for Zen4. (low timings)
Wonder what it would do at 6000/6200MT/s speeds.. 32-32-32-26 ?

*edit*
Here it is, but i think it have to be a typo, should be 34-44-44-88 i think..

I'm still waiting to see the Raptor lake reviews today but I think I'm going to grab a 7950x with a Asus x670 Hero the second week of November. Since I just game, watch several Twitch streams, and use handbrake to convert videos and burn dvds I should need to use an aio right? I'm not going to overclock, just going to set the expo memory. I should be able to slap my Noctua d15 and call it a day right?

I would say yes. I have an AIO and a dark rock pro 4 (similar to your d15, that I also have on a 5950.)I really can't tell the difference. and set your pbo to -25 and temp target to 85.

Some new performance numbers
Hi!
Did you manage to test what can be achieved in MT (e.g. CBR23 or Blender bench 3.3 / LinpackX) in OC mode? How's the cpu behave (temps, power) and what OC voltage and frequency were set?
And how does the behavior and performance when OC'ed compare to PBO2 tuned curve and, let's say 300W PPT, current/thermal limits maxed out (and what their peak values were, especially EDC)?
