Decided to keep CCD1 on my 7950X3D turned off since I only game. Went back to BCLK overclocking since negative CO adjustments are still a pain in the ass. The spectre of spontaneous reboots on different loads doesn't sit well with me.

Been using BCLK of 103MHz. I also set in the Asus BIOS a boost clock limit setting of 5150 for all 8 cores. Max boost is then limited to 5304MHz (5150 x 1.03). This is to also increase stability and eliminate those pesky spontaneous reboots. Absolutely no negative CO used.

Previously, the most average boost clock I saw during gaming was 5050MHz. Now the most common is 5201MHz (5050 x 1.03) with of course the odd chance of a 5304MHz boost.

I might try this out. The curve optimizer recommends -30C on all cores, but it results in random reboots on idle. Somehow I never see reboots on Prime95 or games but it happens when the computer is doing nothing. I just keep it at stock for now, it sits around 4700 at stock in most games that use 2-4 cores.

Are you using CO recommendations from ryzen master ? or you are actually checking with with Corecycler?

I can test with CoreCycler for days with -20 to -25 offset. Prime95 / Y-Cruncher mixed loads. I think it's fine then 10 minutes into a game the PC reboots. Set the CO to -15 and it's fine in that game. Go to play a different game... reboot. Set to -10 and all is fine once more. Different game hours into it... reboot.

All wasted time testing when it never works in the real world.

I despise curve optimizer.

Were you able to isolate which specific core or was that set on all cores?

Hard to do when CoreCycler passes. Gaming causes it. Event Viewer doesn't show which core.
It may require you to do it the long way but it might be easier since you have 1 CCD disabled and don't have to test all 16 cores.

I would set it 1 core at a time then test.

So set -15 on Core 0 then test that for the next few days.

This is more work so obviously only if you have time to care to do it. From your last post seems you were good with how things are now.

I've lost any sort of trust with CO. Had a terrible time with it on my 7950X and now with my 7950X3D.

I've already tested for what amounts to 80 total hours on the V-Cache CCD alone. Testing while working/sleeping. It would find errors or reboot. I would tweak the CO based off of CoreCycler logs. Get a good 8 to 16 hour run then decide to actually use the system for gaming... Reboot.

Nah, I'm done with that nonsense.

BCLK and boost caps are the route for me.

after looking at the price I'll stick to crazy gluing thin sheets of wood to my cases for the same effect.
It's $30 more expensive than a similar case like the Lian Li Lancool 216, and when spending +$2000 building a new computer, I don't mind paying an extra $30 for a nice finish, then spending hours modding and gluing wood on a case

Wood, glass, lights ... shouldn't computer belong to the "not seen, not heard" category?

(That said, the above-mentioned Swedish design could count as disguise, i.e. "not seen".)

I agree, but each to his or her taste. And since I didn't want an ITX build, then it would be somewhat difficult to hide an ATX case and still be able to dissipate the heat, so I chose the case with the best looks.

Really? Please tell me this is satire. Otherwise I bet you also sit on your front porch telling kids to get off your lawn.

substance over style old bean. me, I'll take a generic looking case with adequate ventilation. nothing that can't be overcome by a field torch, metal snips and power tools.

no need to insult another member because they prefer simpler cases and you prefer a showy one like the one in your signature. if he finds that case or yours gaudy and tacky but you and others think it's lovely and peak design then who cares? let him do his own thing and you yours.

Your case and the swedish guy's is nice but they're not cases I'd use myself. too flashy for me if we're being honest. I'd be happy as a cherry tomato if they made old school cases with modern interiors. you could call it a sleeper case.
