So, I installed linux mint 20.3 today. All went fine. even the video drivers. UNITL I installed the updates. Now when it boots, I still get the ubuntu menu, but when the mint screen should be displayed, its black. And I tried the display connector for the internal IGP, and nothing, in fact the screen saver came on. Its did NOT when the back screen was up.

WTF ??? How do I fix this ????

Alright, the puppies are finally together.

It took 6 days to receive the CPU but it's there, finally (*it departed from the U.S. first, and meteorological conditions probably factored in the delay, should have normally taken 3 days max; but I was patient and didn't sent any questions or complaints their way). I'll actually assemble everything and do the build stuff tomorrow, found a 5 hours open window of time to do everything. I'll also move on to Windows 11 as well.

Now i can finally join the X3d Owners club

Have only had a few hours to play around with my new toy, but can share some numbers from initial testing.

Asus silicon prediction for all cores in CCD1 is highish and they are all rated for 5750mhz lol (seems like SP121 is max allowed average CCD1 value -> if i calculate my own CCD1 value it should be 121.625)

Seems like this sample have good IO die, can also run 6600MT/s again just like with my dead 7950x!
(only stock CPU clocks so definitely more to come)

Early clockspeed testing for CCD0 with the v-cache enabled: (very rough estimate since i haven't had time to finetune with PBO CO)
Seems like upto ~5425mhz is no problem atleast in profiler which i have found to be a pretty hard benchmark for Zen4.
What scores are you guys getting when disabling CCD1 ?

Is this a pre-tested sample from someone you got for a higher price or just a regular boxed version???

And what do you mean dead? Dead as in, outside a mobo or did you zap it with volts before you upgraded?

Regular box version i bought on releaseday, just took nearly a week before i got it..

I cracked the IO die on my very good regular 7950x when i was playing around with mounting pressures after i had delidded it.. Was hunting for better temperature spread.

Result after too high mounting pressure:

What exactly are you hoping to learn?
I hope to see the crossection of the die, there are not many such real and recent information on the web. Most of what you can find are just illustrations or obsolete stuff. While at it, the computing chiplets could be also examined...

The most interesting thing is to learn is how big the smallest features in the silicone really are.

I noticed singlethread stuff schedules correctly on CCD1 on the fast cores with PBO disabled, but as soon as I enable PBO in any capacity everything gets scheduled on CCD0.

Geekbench and cinebench stand out as benchmarks I observe this behavior with. Hope they can sort this with driver or agesa update.

Helped my buddy set up his 7950X3D build. A steep discount on Corsair 2x16GB 6000 C36 kits meant 4x16GB. Was kinda wary about that.

Went with ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI since there were only 3 motherboard options in the store. Crazy seeing that price tag on motherboard that lacks a POST code display.

But other than that, the build is pretty normal. Definitely looks a lot more premium than my build!
I probably would have gone with a cheaper case, a smaller 2TB drive + a cheap 4TB QLC drive, and 2x32GB RAM configuration. But it isn't my build to choose!

Fractal Torrent case
850W EVGA Gold
4TB WD Black PCIe 4
Noctua D15
7900 XTX
7950X3D
ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI
CMT32GX5M2D6000C36 x 2

But the build went off without a hitch. Initial POST was really fast, updating BIOS was a breeze, installing Windows was quick, and setting up the DOCP profile just worked. Had to call it quits after that; was getting late.

Can't wait to see what this system can do!

Damn, that sucks big time. Suggest looking into an decent Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). It not only will save you from these headaches but save you from damaging you expensive electronics from outages or brownouts.

I have one, but the first outage of the day drained it to zero since I have my router and ONT tied into it.

Anyone here using an ITX board that isn’t the x670e-i?

Don't encourage him! That's a very nice sample he got!

LOL

Not yet and actually not sure if i ever will.. CPU is not hot and is limited to max 160w PPT anyway.
Maybe if i get bored one day

I was kinda thinking the same thing. It's just that the IHS is so bad on AM5. But looking from your own results with your 7950X, there's less than a 10C difference between lidded and delidded so it doesn't seem to offer a compelling advantage to delid.

I should be getting my last parts today. I can't wait to put the sides and top on the case and see if my air flow and cooling set up is going to work. My last case was built poorly so I ended up just having the side off for most of its life so cooling was trivial. This one is more compact and a lot of watts going through it.
