I am having a very odd issue(s) with a 7950x3d build
GPU is a 7900xtx carried over from my previous 5950x build. PSU, cables, and full custom water cooling loop stuff all carried over as well.
SSD (990 pro - updated firmware), RAM (TForce 32gb 6000MT), MB (Asus x670e Prime Pro - updated bios) are all new.
I spent all day yesterday swapping in the new parts and everything worked fine with DOCP II and PBO enabled with -15 curve optimizer all core. It was working fine this evening as well and I updated chipset drivers, did some additional windows updates, and started playing with per core curve offsets. Was getting some BSODs / boot failures so I started backing off on the offsets until it was basically -15 on everything except two cores which were -20. Seemed fine and was installing a game when the system just clicked (instant off plus click sound) off. Assumed it was undervolt instability so backed that off, still wouldn't boot. Started lowering RAM speeds, still wouldnt boot. Set BIOS to load optimized defaults, still no boot. Cleared CMOS, etc, no luck.
During this time it seemed to POST fine (sequence of LEDs on motherboard indicated success) and start loading into windows but it would restart every time you would expect to see the windows login screen.
I could get to the windows recovery menu but the repair options didn't do anything. Wouldn't boot into safe mode. I eventually got into Windows via the install on the SSD from my previous system which I had put in another M.2 slot. The 990 Pro was visible in Windows and writeable as well. I was doing some troubleshooting and the system clicked off again. Got into windows again on the old SSD and before I could check windows event viewer it clicked off again.
Then for about 30 mins I couldnt even get into the old Windows install until I was writing this post and managed to get in again. Didn't change anything in the interim except power cycle a bunch of times. New drive still showed up but the moment I double clicked on it to open it, the system clicked off and restarted. Might be a coincidence because I booted into old Windows again and did the same thing without an issue. Downloaded Samsung Magician and did a Diagnostic test which indicated no issues. Got as far as doing 2/3 of a Timespy run as well which had more stuttering than normal but otherwise seemed fine, then in the middle of the second graphics test the framerate cratered and the system clicked off again. Clicked off twice in a row after restarting before getting to the Asus splash screen.
Nothing seems physically out of place. Cables well seated, no leaks in the loop, nothing looks especially hot in hwinfo. I think I burned myself slightly on the heatsink for the 990 Pro but it reports as 54-59C in hwinfo. Nothing else in the case feels remotely warm.
The saga continues as I've been writing this and I attempted a Windows Reset which allowed me to get back into windows on the 990Pro. Reinstalled Adrenaline and Far Cry 5 (SSD got up to 70C during validation step where Steam indicated it was reading at 700MB/s). Game seems to run as expected and the system even survived a reboot.
Any ideas what the heck happened / is happening? So many symptoms, some point to hw others point to sw. Maybe a hw issue borked my Windows install? I'm glad I am able to go to bed with a working PC but I am very confused and still worried.
Oh one other symptom is that sometimes the bios wouldn't detect either SSD after several failures in a row. A power cycle would get rid of that, no idea if it matters.
