So far I'm very happy with the platform, but then again I'm not an early adopter and so far seem to have chosen a manufacturer with few BIOS problems.
I never knew about the advice those YT guys gave on the AM5 platform before. I just did my shopping based on "traditional" fundamentals with specs to get what I wanted for a gaming rig on a 2K monitor. My choice of a Gigabyte board seems to be OK so far, however won't know for 100% until it boots up & I load the OS on it.

There is a thread over on overclock.net about the mess the industry has created with the implementation of DDR5 on the AM5 platform. Most interesting.

Welp, my 7950X died. I wasn't aware of this issue until I looked it up after my CPU died. I built the rig with ASUS motherboard around five months ago. I set the XMP to 6200 and left all the other settings auto and called it a day. Now the CPU is dead, if I put the 7950X into any other AM5 mobo it doesn't work. I think the auto SOC voltage was 1.4. I should've checked on these things but too late now. I filed an RMA to AMD and in the meantime, I'm using a 7600X from a secondary rig. For the 7600X I manually set SOC to 1.1v.

From what I've read even manually setting VSoC isn't fool proof. Make sure you monitor HwInfo and report back. Curious if the VSoC manual setting is actually being respected by your mobo.

According to Hwinfo, it doesn't go past 1.1. Here's a photo of the bottom of the 7950X, some of the gold markers are more brownish/darker color.

Wow. 1.4V is too much for these chips??? Maybe everyone with ASUS mobos should check their CPU undersides to see if there is anything cooking down there.
Yes. Most people who hand-tune their RAM don't need anywhere near that much vSoC to get good RAM overclocks on this platform, so the idea that anyone needs 1.4v for EXPO/XMP is a bit ridiculous.

I'm running Bulldzoid timings for M-die at 6000MHz with 1.18V actual. I haven't tried lower yet, but ASUS X670E mobo AutoSet 1.38V actual.

I tweaked it way before this topic surfaced as I never trust auto-voltages.

I'm running modified BZ timings for M-die at 6000 MCLK with 1.11V actual for SOC. I don't think I've ever exceeded 1.25V on my 7800X3D.

I did briefly set 1.40V on my 7700X to see if 6400 MCLK was possible. I settled on 1.25V on the 7700X afterwards as setting 6400 MEMCLK did not POST. Tuning the memory for better latency at 6000 seems to be the sweet spot, at least for the 7000 series.

Put BIOS 1412 on my Crosshair Extreme X670E. Applied all of my 1410 settings. Still have only the V-Cache CCD enabled. Took a look at the SP rating of it while I was in there. It's an overall 97. That is. if SP ratings are to be trusted.

Curious to know what 7800X3D SP ratings are.

I updated BIOS and now my 7950X doesn't seem to boost over 5,540MHz in single thread Cinebench. That doesn't seem right does it?
Is there any small benchmark you folks are aware of that *should* boost to 5,700MHz?
The score seems normal (1T 2060, MT 38200) so I wonder what's going on.

I've tried the new OCCT with my 7800X3D.
vSOC reports stable 1.25V at all times.
running AVX2 stress (normal) test the CPU temperature maxes out at ~76C (Tctl/Tdie)
running AVX512 stress (normal) test the CPU temperature maxes out at ~85C, (Tctl/Tdie) max power consumption ~85W
gaming the CPU temperature maxes out at ~76C (Tctl/Tdie)

So unless you run AVX512 workloads you're not even close to be thermally limited with the 7800X3D.

Built 2 7950x rigs recently for AV1 encoding. Comparing to my 5800x desktop, they've been really, really good. At preset 8 and QP 34 the 5800x totals around 90fps and the 7950x about 280-330fps, despite having double the cores it's over 3x as fast. Must be the zen3 vs zen4 architecture, cache, clocks peed and maybe avx512 differences. I'm using the SVT-AV1 encoder in FFmpeg.

For the first 7950x I'm seeing a allcore clock of 5.3ghz on the first chiplet and 5.05ghz on the second.

For the 2nd processor I'm seeing 5.3ghz on the first chiplet and 5.1~ on the 2nd. Are they good speeds? Also the first cpu is around 91c~ and 86c~ for the latter at a ambient temp of 24c.

Finally today get my new AM5 build up & running, that is running in the sense of mobo leds are on & CPU fans spinning, keyboard light is on but I think its taking a particularly long time for memory training. However the VGA led is on all the time despite trying to use only the iGPU via HDMI or even a dedicated but oldish VGA attached (R9 Nano). I have an RX6800 XT but its used in another rig atm. I'll put some pics up asap.
The ADATA RAM is listed as supported on the QVL for my set of RAM.
But any idea why the boot is stalling like this? a check of the mobo site reveals only one bios currently available & its using AGESA 1.0.0.5 C.

Edit: Ok , so this is a bit embarrassing but finally got the board to boot & it has only F2 Bios (Sept 22') confusing cause' the board did not come out until March this year...hard to confirm though when I could not get an image on the monitor!
Found out the reason for no image on monitor was just a simple HDMI cord problem! this is a cord that had hardly any usage at all & stored well too.
